*This girl went to school with me. I only knew her from a couple of parties, but still. Seeing video of what happened down the road is awful. Guys holding others down and just beating them. Setting cars on fire. Here is an email from a friend of a friend who is a security guard at Fenway:
"I cannot express in words what the last twelve hours have been like for me,though I'm going to try. First of all, the game was simply unbelieveable. We had about 15-20 guys working in the park with about 75-100 cops(a guess,
I know they had 317 assigned total, but most were for post game). We had two guys at each entrance to the park. By entrance I mean little doors
nobody ever notices. The big gates you go in for the game were rolled down and the place was buttoned up tight. About 6 of us were in the Player's Club, which is a function hall right by Gate E across from the Cask. I was assigned there for the post-game with one other guy. Most of the guys who worked were all veteran guys who knew what they were doing. Dude. Holy sh*t. I just got home and it's about 6:45am and I have to go to
work in a half hour. My boss was flown back in from NYC where he was with the team as
they wanted someone to oversee/work with the cops to maintain the integrity of the park. Last year a bunch of retards broke in and were on TV running
around the place and generally trashing hings...He had us button the place up tight.
All rollup gates were down and any lights that could be seen from the outside were to be
doused b/c if they lost he wanted it to look like "a ghost town". So, Pokey throws out whoever it was, and we all high five and hug and
prepare for the worst. I bet 2 minutes after the last out we scattered to our spots. Two on the monster, Two at each entrance, cops outside etc...We step out into the foyer of the Club and watch as the crowd goes from 50 to 500 to 5000 in minutes. People were out of control. Immediatly pouring out of every bar and every apartment. Soon, it was shoulder to shoulder on
Landsdowne and on the bridge to Kenmore...All of a sudden my buddy calls in that there are people climbing the monster, then that people had made it up top. We sprint up there to assist and find a bunch of the phony, geek, loser, low level front office dorks, hammered and hanging over the
fence and screaming like the people on the street...I tell them to get back inside the suites where they'ed been watching the game. Then, we hear that there are people on the other end of the monster by the bleachers. We take
off up there then hear a call that one of the people on the monster while fleeing my buddy James jumped/fell over the side down onto Landsdowne. He is screaming on the radio to notify Boston EMS. I get to the edge and there is the kid lying mangled on the sidewalk. Then, remembering where I was supposed to be sprint back down to the club.
Now there are big windows that line the length of the club. People are hammering it and climbing up on a short roof/awning which is slowly sagging under the weight...No cops in sight still at this point. They are pulling on the doors with all their might, 3-4 guys at once. My buddy looks at me and says "What do we do if they get in?" How the F was I supposed to know...crazy calls are coming across the radio. People climbing
onto all the bars, dudes shimmying up light posts, fights breaking out...Soon, much to our relief 6 cops show up and clear the people off the
roof and stand at the two doors...There are thousands and thousands of people out there now. Thousands.
Boston EMS was trying to drive thru the crowd to get to the guy who fell off the monster. 12 or so mounted police arrive to escort the ambulance up
Landsdowne...The cops outside look serious and mean business....they weren't riot cops but had all the gear. One of them bangs on the door with
his stick (a solid, think pool cue looking thing). I crack the door. "If I bang on this door again, let us in in a hurry". Uh, yes sir.
Jesus. I'm going to die. Somewhere in this Fires were started.
A car was set afire at Burger King and blew up.
Bottle rockets and Roman candles were going horizontally down the street. My boss comes over the radio "We have a report from the State Police
Helicopter that there are 10-15 thousand kids coming from all the colleges and another group coming from Fanuel Hall." Huh? We go back to the monster where NESN and other idiots were filming
down into the street and quickly making things worse. We make them stop.
Riot Cops and Swat Teams were reportedly coming from both sides...up from Jillians and around from Yawkey Way. Some had tommy gun like guns that
presumably held rubber bullets, tear gas and the pepper spray bean bags. A call from the monster "A girl is down on the ground by Golds...We go up to the monster. My two buddies, both big, tough, football types are standing
there with their mouths wide open. "What?"
"That girl just got shot in the face by a cop".
Oh. I guess a group of idiots had gunned beers at the mounted cops and the riot guys turned and fired.
This hasn't been reported on the news (then again, NOTHING ON THE NEWS IS EVEN CLOSE TO HOW BAD IT WAS). sorry for the all-caps. This girl is on a ventilator in the hospital. A bullet went thru her eye into her brain and she isn't expected to live. Don't say too much as these two kids have already met with Homicide and
Internal Affairs Detectives and may be the only witnesses. The cops rolled in hard at that point. Kids got mangled, but not even that
bad. By about 2:30, we heard that the bus had left Yankee Stadium and we could expect them around 4am. I'll get back to you with this part of the story later, I must got to school now and somehow make this day seem real. It does get better as yours truly shook Pedro's hand as he stepped off the bus. HAMMERED. I was just
like "Great Job Man" ...nobody else was there. It was weird....We took Arroyo to his Apt on foot and zinged people on the way. I mean zinged. I
told him about the kid jumping off the monster and he stopped, in the middle of Boylston St and said "No f*ckin way, the whole way?"
Yup.
Guess who was most hammered that I saw? I'll give you a hint...never panic. Dude, World Series?
By the way, the news is clueless. I don't know if I can ever watch it again. Is it always 10% of the facts?
Holy sh*t, WORLD SERIES!"
*They're talking about banning TV and alcohol from the bars surrounding Fenway during games. Good. The fans asked for it.
I dearly hope the Cardinals win, because if they win the Series... yike.
I'm not trying to make a Yankees-fans-are-better statement here. I am just so disgusted with this city right now that I cannot for a moment feel bad about their 86 year "curse". Let them wait until they can grow up.
