2 : Probably today, if only because of the difference in size and speed. Though it would be close.

4 : Though I'm assuming you mean most surprsing winner, I'm going to go a different route and say when Magic Johnson announced he was HIV positive. He had always been the "good guy", and now had the "bad guy" disease (I was very young, you have to understand). Not many younger kids knew much about HIV at that time.
