Default Summer Transfers/Rumours 2009

Barry to Citeh... because he wanted to play CL football!

And Kaka to Real.

Be interesting to see how much Real will want to pay for CR. And by how much Bayern's asking price for Ribery will come down.

This is my first transfer summer of being a fan, and this looks like it's going to be fantastic.

"Rumours" is a dead giveaway it's Brit football... or maybe it's cricket.

I had to add the "u" to distinguish it.

(yes, EPL and other European club soccer leagues)

Yeah it's 'real' football, guys.

This summer is going to be very interesting - it's know as silly season because everyday a new speculation story comes out. Zidane to Liverpool, Ronaldinho to Utd being my old favourites. This will be the first proper window City will have an it'll be very interesting to see who they take. I heard from an insider that Barry turned down 65,000 a week from Liverpool to take £100,000/week at Citeh, Champions League and England first team place - my arse.

Florentino Perez has gone back to Real Madrid (not sure if you know anything about him) he's the guy who introduced the 'Galactico' approach in his last term as president; buy the world's best players and the added interest, shirt sales, merchandise and sponsorship will fund the transfer fees/wages in the long term. Madrid’s matchday turnover rose by about 60% in the season they signed Beckham IIRC.

As I type this I've just seen Chelsea have bid £73 million for Kaka - still think he'll go to Madrid if he goes. I'd be much more worried if they bought Pirlo to be honest.

On a side note - my Dad is pissed at the news of Utd's new shirt sponsor. He used to be the Senior client director for AON in the UK before he retired. He would have been the guy with the keys to the box at Old Trafford.

Few days old but Kaka to Madrid. A note to the British press, since the deal was done in Euros not pounds this is not a world record fee - to try to claim otherwise (due to the weak exchange rate) is just plain lazy and sensationalist.

Washington Post's soccer insider is claiming that CR is in LA today for a physical for Real. The transfer fee would be $135 mil over five years.

If he leaves, well, come on down Franck Ribery. And maybe ManU can get Robben or another inevitable Real castoff.

Robben has been linked to us, he's an complete 'Charlie Uniform November Tango' but a fantastic player and still young. I doubt we can afford him thanks to our owners and thier very aggressive leveraging of the club. - if RBS don't extend our loans we really will be in the shit.

Good thing I wore my CR jersey last night...

It will be facinating to see who they go get to replace him. The tag on Ribery is publicly too high, privately, no idea what Bayern would take if ManU threw half of the Ronaldo kitty at him.

They HAVE to get a playmaker or two. It's now just a matter of who.

Satanta have failed to make thier next payment to the FA and thus have lost their rights to show EPL games next season.

...and now Chelsea have come in for Johnson. Fantastic news (note the sarcasm font)

1. Ran his contract down so we only got £8million for a £30 million rated player.
2. Sat on the Bench at Madrid whilst we won the European Cup, ran his contract down again
3. Turned down the chance to rejoin Liverpool in favour of £120,000 a week at Newcastle.
4. Couldn't be arsed in the North East (didn't even move house and flew up there everyday meaning he was late for training).
5. Ran his contract down for a third time meaning Newcastle saw no return on their investment.
6. Slaps all Liverpool fans in the face and joins Utd, solely for purposes of getting back in the England squad.

Five years ago he was on course to become a Liverpool legend. He decided that a lifetime of deification was not for him, he’s now destined to become one of those players who times forgets, a player who is not remembered with genuine fondness, by any fans anywhere. He’s sold his birthright and legacy for a bench in Manchester. All the best mate. Michael Who?

on the +ve , it looks like Satanta will be saved in Ireland and USA. ESPN have baught our rights so hopefully very litte will change.

I love the pay-for-play deal

He may actually do something now

Hating the fact that Benzema is with Real and that Ribery is heading there. Who else is United going to get? You can't replace Tevez and Ronaldo with Valencia and Owen...

I'd love to have Huntelaar or Robben though.

No clue, mate. Maybe Mark Hughes knows half his strikeforce are going to be off for a while - that's the only reason for having 9 strikers on the first team books. Shrek has to be one

Sick of Citeh yet?

If they get John Twatboy, they might vault the douchebags on the hated list.

And they may be a damn good team.

I honestly am not happy with United right now. They got markedly worse, and while I don't think that any of the top four in the Prem got markedly better, it may be enough to let you win this year.

And I can't wait to watch some La Liga this year. Freaking Real is stacked. (Interesting to see how Raul's ego handles all of this talent. He's the odd man out it seems...)

(Really want Robben still, even though that SAF has said nothing's happening and really don't understand how Klaas-Jan didn't go to a better side)

What do you think the odds of Mascherano and Xabi leaving are?

Alonso will probably go to be honest. It's a real shame as he's by far the best in the league at what he does. Great vision, ability to read the game and play an inch perfect pass. The problem is who can replace him? Lucas will be a very good player in the future and has shown glimpses of being exceptional in patches, but for a title contending team I'm not sure if he is reliable enough yet.

Masch is a strange one, again he's the best at what he does - break up play; would probably be easier to replace though. He owes Rafa alot - he was sitting in the West Ham reserves when we got him (o.k through their incompetence) and he's now Argentina Captain and a world star.

If I had to call. XA = gone/going
JM = staying

Do you think the chances of getting Crouch back are realistic?

I tend to agree with you that Xabi is gone and Javier stays. With all of the talk of Xabi leaving, I have a hard time believing that he won't leave, and that if he doesn't leave now, he'll leave in January or next summer.

I honestly have no idea who the favorite is this year. United got worse, you guys will get worse if Xabi leaves, Arsenal didn't improve any, neither did Chelsea, and Man City is going to challenge for the top four, but probably doesn't have the depth to contend seriously.

Crouch needs to be playing at mid table team such as Spurs or Villa, he needs to be a regular starter especially in a World Cup year....my guess is it'll be Spurs.

The probelem Liverpool have in the striking department is that we need a proven goal scorer but we have to convince him to be happy playing second fiddle to torres. Voronin scored a load in Germany and has shown desire to make his mark here..I think if he stays he'll certainly be valuable but the question remains, if Torres gets injured is Voronin the main to score us the goals to win us a premier league? No

I've heard the Alonso saga is on an absolute knife edge, he's pissed off that Rafa has given Torres, Gerrard, Dirk and Carra new contracts but not him. He sees it as a direct insult especially considering Torres had 4 years left on his old one. The interesting thing is that Rafa seems prepared to take a chance and not sell him for anything less than £35 million, he's apparently bullish that Real will not bully him into selling for cheaper. If Alonso stays and we will the league, all will be patched up, he'll get a new contract etc etc. If we fall flat on our faces and Alonso has a poor season he'll probably go for a lot less than the current Real offer.

To win it;

Utd 15/8
Chelsea 2/1
Liverpool 7/2
Arsenal 8/1
City 10/1

Very close betting this year, but I'll stick my neck out and say if Utd don't add to their squad it'll be Liverpool, Chelsea, Utd.
