A Steelers fan liked to amuse himself by scaring every Ravens fan he saw strutting down the street in an obnoxious Ravens shirt. He would swerve his van as if to hit them, then swerve back just missing them. One day while driving along, he saw a priest. He thought he would do a good deed, so he pulled over and asked the priest, 'Where are you going, Father?' 'I'm going to
give Mass at St. Francis church, about two miles down
the road,' replied the priest. 'Climb in, Father. I'll give
you a lift!' The priest climbed into the passenger seat,
and they continued down the road. Suddenly, the driver
saw a Ravens fan walking down the road, and he
instinctively swerved as if to hit him. But, as usual,
he swerved back onto the road just in time. Even though
he was certain that he had missed the guy, he still heard
a loud THUD. Not knowing where the noise came from,
he glanced in his mirrors but still didn't see anything. He then remembered the priest, and he turned to the
priest and said, sorry Father, I almost hit that Ravens fan.' 'That's OK,' replied the priest 'I got him with the door.'

I think it's going to come down to Willie P and Ben. If those two are on their game it will be nothing but champagne bubbles and backwards hats.

Yeah but if the line can't block then Fast Willie and Big Ben can't do jack ! What concerns me the most is as of yesterday Hartwig hasn't practiced yet and was walking with a limp ! ! If he can't go we are in serious trouble ! If Stapleton has to move to center and Essex has to play right guard it could very ugly ! !

If Pittsburgh wins, I'm coming out for the Super Bowl. My son was at Pitt the last time they won and said it was the "best night of his life". They're were pics of him on some website standing on an overturned car in front of the Cathedral. I'll probably be a "little" more restrained.

Got £2 on the the Cardinals to beat the Eagles @ 4-1. Keeps it interesting.

Our TV network buys the rights from yours, I much prefer the Fox coverage...they actually show you where they need to get to rather than CBS expecting you to know yourself.

I'll have to tape the other game since it doesn't even start until 11pm

Steelers need to put 20 or 50 more points on the board before I start breathing any easier.

I don't follow the Steelers very much, but I sure am impressed with Polamalu (but then he's a USC boy isn't he)

eta: for the record, I wrote that before the TD

I agree. I don't think it was a bad hit. All the announcers call it clean.

Overall, it was a good game. The Steelers D made Flacco look real bad. I'm more excited for the Cardinals. Fitzgerald is the man.

Hit looked clean to me. Now, if it was a quarterback he did that to he'd be banished for a year.

Default Lot's of Steelers Fans / posts...heres a Cardinals Fan

Went to the game on Sunday and never expected the crowd to be so loud...In fact I never heard a stadium even close to that loud before.

The Lowly Cards played a great game for the 3rd time in 3 weeks.
The new coach Whisenhunt (From Steelers) has done an amazing job in just a few years getting this team playing some very high level football.

Larry Fitzgerald and Kurt Warner are just amazing players.

Go Cardinals in the Super Bowl!

We're talking about the league that fined Wes Welker $10K for doing a snow angel, which is the same amount that they fined Shaun Ellis for dumping snow on fans while in Seattle.

The hypocrisy of the NFL is astounding.

I don't think it was a blatant head to head hit at all. Clark braced sideways and led with his shoulder, it's just that McGahee ran into his head. Clark was stupid in having his head down, but he's not the only player that does, and will continue to do that.

He won't be suspended, like the Anquan Boldin hit, but I will be seriously shocked if he's not fined.

I agree that he definately led with the shoulder. He's looking at a guy that has him by 35 lbs and just trying to make a play. It's possible that the NFL will fine him; he'll pay it and move on.

Really enjoying this sport now, it's no 'real football' but is now second in my list of favourite sports.

What a game! I was so nervous until Troy ran back the interception. The great thing is that Howie and the guys before the game were talking about what a talented safety he was and one of them piped up and said "but, he's never returned an interception for a TD".... They jinxed him!
I wish I could be in Tampa for the game. I took the 2nd off, so I now need to find a Steelers bar to go watch the game. I never go out to watch my teams since I am in Ohio - it just doesn't happen.

Yay Steelers! I am so glad McGahee was moving, because that was scary.

This may make you feel better :
McGahee is resting at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital with movement in all his limbs and was “neurologically intact,” a spokesman said.
Update: “Ravens running back Willis McGahee was released from UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh early this morning and returned immediately to Baltimore. He is resting at his home today. It is expected that Willis will have a complete recovery from the head and neck injuries he suffered last night.”

The block by Limas Sweed was almost as hard. I'm glad the Steelers have two weeks to recover.

Per PFT

Quote:
NO FINE COMING FOR CLARK, BUT THERE SHOULD BE

Posted by Mike Florio on January 19, 2009, 9:32 p.m. EST
Though the hit appeared to be the kind of thing for which players get fined and/or suspended all the time, the helmet-to-helmet brain-scrambling hit on Ravens running back Willis McGahee by Steelers safety Ryan Clark won’t result in a fine.
Per Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe, a league spokesman says that the hit was clean.
Seriously.
“‘[McGahee] had completed the catch and was a runner,’” the spokesman told Reiss. “‘Helmet-to-helmet contact is legal in that situation as it is for any ball carrier (running back, quarterback, or receiver). Helmet-to-helmet contact is prohibited against defenseless players (defined as a receiver in the process of making a catch or a quarterback in the act of passing).’”
OK, now we’re really confused. What the hell is the difference between a running back who doesn’t see it coming and a receiver or a quarterback who don’t see it coming?
If the concept of defenselessness (doesn’t sound right, but what the hell?) is premised on a player not being able to defend himself, wouldn’t that apply to a player who can’t defend himself because he doesn’t see it coming?
And what about the concept of spearing? Isn’t it against the rules for a guy to lead with his helmet regardless of whether the other guys sees it coming?
As it turns out, it is.
Moreover, the relevant provision of the rule book doesn’t limit the concept of helmet-to-helmet hits to defenseless players only. Instead, the rule states that defenseless players should merely get extra protection.
Per Rule 12, Section 2, Article 8(g) of the 2008 NFL rules, the concept of unnecessary roughness includes “using any part of a player’s helmet . . . or facemask to butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily; although such violent or unnecessary use of the helmet and facemask is impermissible against any opponent, game officials will give special attention in administering this rule to protecting those players who are in virtually defenseless postures (e.g., a player in the act of or just throwing a pass, a receiver catching or attempting to catch a pass, a runner already in the grasp of a tackler, a kickoff or punt returner attempting to field a kick in the air, or a player on the ground at the end of a play).”
The short translation? This rule conflicts with what the spokesman told Reiss, and Clark shouldn’t avoid a fine simply because McGahee wasn’t catching or throwing a pass.
The long translation? Here we go.

First, if Clark used “any part” of his helmet to “butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily,” the violation is unnecessary roughness, and the player is subject to a fine or a suspension.
Second, the spokesman who spoke to Reiss misstated the rule. Using the helmet to “butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily” always is a violation.
Third, contrary to what the spokesman told Reiss, defenseless players are not by definition only “a receiver in the process of making a catch or a quarterback in the act of passing.” The rule sets forth three specific other examples of defenselessness: a runner in the grasp of a tackler, a player fielding a kick or a punt, and a player on the ground.
Fourth, and here’s where precision in the reading of the rules is critical, the list of potentially defenseless players isn’t exhaustive. The list begins with the designation “e.g.,” which means “for example.” And this means that what follows are examples and not a full and complete list.
If the powers-that-be had intended the list to be exclusive, the parenthetical should have begun with the letters “i.e.”
So if the five examples aren’t intended to represent the complete list, more examples can be added to the concept of defenselessness.
Such as a player who doesn’t see it coming.
So, basically, there’s a clear and definite conflict between what the spokesman told Reiss and what the rules say.
Based on the replay angle shown several minutes after the live play, Clark led with his helmet. It was a violation of the rules. A flag should have been thrown and, at a minimum, a fine should be imposed.
