British Open 2008

The British Open is being played in my Village (Birkdale) and I thought I'd share a couple of pictures. These are from practice days as you aren't allowed to take cameras or phones in on championship Days. Overall the crowds have been very respectful of the place and the small village shops/pubs have been doing a roaring trade.

For those of you at the Summit who heard me talk about the 'roundhouse' here's me outside it. As the story goes - Coke offered the owner $5 to paint it into a coke can for the week - their offer was declined

Finally the Course, I've heard a few of the non Europeans complain it's too windy and the rough is too long; I think it's a great links course. You can't see it here but the beach is about 100 metres to the left of the photo.

That looks great Neil. I'd love to play on some of the open courses. There are a few links type courses here on Long Island that I really enjoy playing.

Yeah, I bet those are a challange, Bob. I'd love to play anywhere warm and tranquil to be honest.

You can play some of the open courses, all be it, from a different set of tees for about £80 - £100. My handicap isn't good enough though - Birkdale is sub 25 I think.

It's freaking 95 degrees here today.

Bethpage Black is about 30 minutes from where I live. It's daily fee so anyone can play it. I've played it many times and as tough as it is I always enjoy playing there.

Well Harrington the winner. I really enjoyed it - shame next year is about a 7hr drive instead of a 5 minuite walk away

Will you be applying for next years US Open then Bob?

I'm going to try to volunteer for it with the USGA. As for playing...
