Default "Bonds market remains non-existent"

Story

It says he won't play in the minors but he'd play for the league minimum. I guess I'm suprised some AL team hasn't picked him up (for a song) to DH for them. Is the "side show" that is Barry Bonds really that big of an issue for these teams? Is he really that much of a "clubhouse cancer"?

If it's the legal issue, that trial doesn't even start until next March!

Like him or not, the guy still impacts the game if he's in the lineup, yes?

What do you guys think?

Baseball is stupid.

Plain and simple.

Every team has a player on it that has used PEDs. That's probably a very sure bet. Why is Barry Bonds so different? Is it because he was a great player helped by PEDs to make himself a legend? Is baseball really that hypocritical to be pissed off about their record being tainted when they did absolutely nothing to curb PED use? The men who are running this show are buffoons.

Bonds is going to put up a .400 OBP with 15-20 HR. Sure, he may not be able to run very fast, but he's going to be on base. Better to be slow and on base than fast and not on base. He's going to still scare pitchers, hit a lot of doubles, and draw a ton of walks. That type of production can justify the media circus. Barry Bonds' statistics will not lose a team any games. He will win them games.

Yes, he's a douche. I'm not disagreeing with that. But at 43, even with the help of PEDs, he's still a pretty effective offensive ballplayer.

i totally agree with this.

the only drawback i can see is the ego that comes with him causing a break in chemistry of a team. If the cubs, boston or yankees were to acquire him, then there would be way too much ego in the dugout for the team to do well. We already see this kind of breaking out with boston and the frustration with the injuries. when coco charged the mound, we say youkilis and manny get in a fight in the dugout.

I was always under the idea that too many big stars on a team does not mean the team will be good. Look at the yankees since they added Arod, they have not won a world series title, even with all the talent on the team.

I'm right on board with that as well. I just don't get it. I do agree that Selig is an idiot, even though he's treated pretty well around here. Most like him for bringing baseball back to Milwaukee, others hate him (or more specifically his daughter) for almost running the team into the ground before the current owner took over. The guy's a used car salesman for Christ sake!

I don't see the Cubs taking him, then he's have to play the outfield. That won't happen unless they strictly use him as a pinch hitter. IF he comes back, it will definately be for an AL team as a DH. It just seems like someone that's close to getting over the hump would pick him up.

or he'll sit idle for the summer and someone will pick him up for minimum in September when the rosters expand

I wouldn't mind his LH bat in the middle of the Tigers order- especially with Maggs and Cabrera both getting hurt this week. But, they are paying big money to Sheffield to DH, so it's not going to happen. I'd also be a little worried about his effect on the team's chemistry.
