Default Kobe Bryant Training Schedule

I was on google searching for kobe bryant's training to see what he actually does to be "this good" and came across this...

Source: Kobe Bryant's Workout Schedule - Message Board Basketball Forum - InsideHoops

Its called the 666 workout. 6 hours a day, 6 days a week, 6 months a year.
Consists of:
2 hours of running
2 hours of basketball
1 hour of Cardio (boxing, jump rope, etc)
1 hour of Weights which are listed below:

Day 1 & Day 4
Bench press
Lat pull-downs
Incline press
Military press
Abdominal crunches

Day 2 & Day 5
Lateral dumbbell raises
Bar dips
Tricep press-downs
Bicep curls
Abdominal crunches

Day 3 & Day 6
Back squats/Front squats
Leg curls
Leg extensions
Calf raises
Abdominal crunches

He has so much work ethic and is in great physical shape. This is like 4 hours of training a day! I wonder if he is tired and worn out once he reaches the weightraining portion of his workout and especially the cardio. If he does 2 hours of running before basketball, isn't that already considered cardio?

By the way, I could not find the actual conditioning workout he does. The only thing the person on the insidehoops forum could find is what I was only able to find as well is the weightraining schedule.

Do you think Kobe can keep this up even 5 years or even 10 years from now or will his body eventually slow him down? I know that the older you get, the harder you have to work at something in order to not lose it.

The real question is can he win a ring without shaq. If doing the 666 could make me put up 81 in a game ill start tomorrow.

Yes he can Steve. He has Gasol. Did you watch the Lakers vs. the Suns game the other night with Shaq's debut? It was close the whole game and the Lakers won by 5. Kobe also got 40 something points that game. They won the season series against the Suns 3-1. Winning has nothing to do with Kobe's physical shape though. In order to win a championship, more than one player needs to step up and make baskets. Kobe cannot do everything by himself. Basketball is a team sport just like Softball, Soccer, Football, and many other sports.

I did watch it, and I wouldnt call it a great win, shaq looked lost until the fourth. And you said he can? Talk to me after the season is over. If bynum comes back strong, they are the team to beat, but we all know what happend to dallas last year. the regular season means NOTHING. Shaq has 30 games to get accustomed to pheonix. And dont forget about boston and the pistons(jruck is gunna have a field day with this) but they are the two best teams in the league in my opinion. Spurs still the charmps, and Golden state isnt even in the playoffs, but would be the 3rd seed in the east.

to say they can is one thing. to say they will is another. and kobe knows it, his career will mean nothing without another ring without shaq. Remember he still has never won a league MVP or a finals MVP. He has allot to prove and he knows it. Im not hating on kobe, kobe is a beast but still has allot to prove. not even sure if my drunken ramblings even made sense.

First of all this sounds more like Gilbert Arenas workout! Kobe will not win a title by himself though.

Well it is a great schedule FOR THEM. They are preparing there bodies for the long strech of the playoffs. The playoffs go from April to June!!!! This is not included the marathon of the season as well.

I'd say that routine isn't exactly optimal. You could get more bang for your buck with other routines. 2 hours of running in addition to 2 hours of basketball would be a waste of time and the wear and tear wouldn't be worth it. He'd be better off spending one of those hours swimming or cycling or something. Plus there are no cleans, snatches, or other ballistics to be found. Lucky Kobe has genetics on his side to make up for the shortcomings of that workout.

Something tells me that's not his workout.

This can't possibly be his work out. It doesn't make sense for him to run 2 miles every day when most of the running in the game is sprints. As for the basketball part i am sure it is a slowed down mechanics (shooting, plays etc)

Hopefully that was his high school routine. LA's strength staff would be able to create something much more suited for him now, or he would be able to afford someone that create a plan based on his incredible ability and game.
