And Greg shuts down the JJ bandwagon for the second week. This is getting interesting!

Hell yes!!! Next up is KC, where Greg won last years race. And punk boy finished 43rd. Man, the racing gods are giving the 18 bunch a dose of humility. I think I'd be happy with 8 more DNFs from them.
The last 30 laps were some of the best racing... I mean entertainment that we have been treated to in a long time. I hope that the remaining races have some of that too.
Good run for the old man too.

Biffle said he could sympathize with owner Jack Roush, who watched his three cars battle for the lead with an intensity that had the fans at the Monster Mile on their feet lap after lap.
"I'll tell you what," Biffle said. "I wouldn't have wanted to be in his position. I'd have crapped my pants watching those three cars running into each other. We were going at it. That was Friday, Saturday night short track racing, where we all came from -- but there's so much on the line."

Hmph. Maybe we can hire the garage saboteur that brought down Shrub and get him into Johnson's crew.
I really, really hope the Chase doesn't turn into a blowout.

Kyle Petty out at Petty Enterprises? Was this #45-Kyle Petty's last race for Petty Enterprises? Sunday's Kansas 400 looks like it might well have been his last Sprint Cup run for the family business that he's worked for for so many years, that his grandfather Lee founded in 1949 and that his father Richard has been running all these years. That pending departure-not of Kyle Petty's own doing-is the stunning word from Patti Petty, Kyle's wife. Kyle Petty has been the center of a family storm of controversy since the spring, and he insists he doesn't think he's part of the long-running problems at Petty Enterprises. And Patti Petty says her husband is determined to stay at the wheel of a Cup car.....for someone. Kyle Petty himself ... has been struggling with the entire situation, Patti Petty says. While Petty himself was stoic about whatever turmoil is going on behind the scenes, promising to talk about things eventually, his wife was quite emotional - "Maybe I'm the only one here willing to tell the truth," she said. "They haven't wanted Kyle in the car the last three years. They want a young driver, a 30-year-old, a 20-year-old. "But Wells Fargo, our sponsor, says it's going to stay with Kyle, whatever he does. I wish Chip Ganassi (a fellow Dodge team owner) would take a look at Kyle. He's got a 12-race sponsorship deal for next year that would be a perfect part-time schedule for Kyle. And Kyle could help mentor a young driver. They told him at Watkins Glen - right when he was standing there in his driver's suit - that they didn't want him in the car." There are indications that Michael McDowell, currently driving for Michael Waltrip's Toyota operation, and AJ Allmendinger, currently driving for Team Red Bull, are under consideration for the Petty ride, as teammate with Bobby Labonte. Kyle Petty is tentatively scheduled to run a Petty car at Phoenix in November, but Patti Petty says that looks too iffy.(Winston-Salem Journal)(9-29-2008)
I guess Richard needs to put his foot down.

UPDATE 2: JTG Daugherty Racing has signed what team co-owner Brad Daugherty called a "technical alliance" with Michael Waltrip Racing, and thus will field Toyota Camrys full-time in the Sprint Cup Series beginning in 2009. The deal will be announced formally Wednesday afternoon. Under the agreement, JTG/Daugherty receives the same chassis, engines and technological information-sharing that Waltrip gets through Toyota Racing Development. "This way we don't come out of the box already behind," said Daugherty, reached by phone Wednesday. "Actually, this puts us about two years ahead of where we would have been otherwise." Daugherty, an ESPN NASCAR analyst, said the alliance includes the #47 team being housed under the MWR roof. Daugherty stressed there was still independence from MWR, however, saying it is not a merger and that the #47 is not a fourth Waltrip team. "We'll work with Toyota Racing Development out of Costa Mesa [Calif.], and all their parts and pieces already flow through MWR," Daugherty said. "It just makes sense for us to be in-house over [at MWR]." Marcos Ambrose will drive the #47 Toyota, with sponsorship from Little Debbie Snack Cakes and Clorox.(ESPN.com)(10-1-2008) Comment here
What the fuck does MWR possess?

An inherent hammy nature that plays well in commercials, but little driving talent.

big wreck: just in to the practice #88-Earnhardt Jr., #38-Gilliland, #20-Stewart, #44-Reutimann, #11-Hamlin, #07-Bowyer and #9-Kahne involved in a wreck when Earnhardt Jr's right rear tire exploded taking much of the rear of the car off.

How much you want to bet if Jimmeeee drove below the yellow line, they'd give him the win anyway?

Jim - good race, multiple leaders and no one dominated, but marred by a disconcertingly large number of blown tires. Multiple crashes took out a number of teams, including nearly all the chasers. Stewart was leading at the end, and Regan Smith tried to pass and ended up below the yellow line, so officials disqualified the pass, giving Stewart the win.

If Tony holds his line entering the tri-oval the 01 still has to go below (the rule does not discern between two tires and four, and two, IIRC, has gotten people penalized in the past) the yellow line, so he wasn't "forced" below per se.
Also, I don't think NASCAR could justify Regan freaking Smith winning.

IIRC, Tony was up off the yellow line and blocked Smith (as he should) when he shoved his nose to the inside. It appeared that he forced Smith under the yellow line and there was no way in hell he would be able to ease back up on the racing surface after giving the position back to Stewart.
It's a rule that gives NA$CAR an opportunity to make a 'judgement call'. It would have been interesting indeed had it not been a 'nobody in Brian and Mike's eyes' and had been King Jimmie or Dale Jr.
Or better yet, Smith can hold his line and wreck the other 13 cars left runnning after all the other carnage.

Yeah, he blocked him, but if Stewart holds his line at the time that Smith makes his move to the inside, Smith still has to go below the yellow line, therefore making the pass illegal.
Yes, there was a block. But even with the move to the high lane, there wasn't enough of a lane for Smith to go to the inside without going below the yellow line.

Fucking new car + the Hendick cars did that. Didn't see much, but based on what I did see, I should have taped it for those nights I have trouble falling asleep.

If Cerberus manages to sell Chrysler/Jeep to GM, they could throw Dodge into the deal for just a bit more rather than just deep-sixing Dodge altogether. Then we'd probably see a consolidation of Chevy and Dodge racing.
If Dodge is dissolved and not sold, then yes, Evernham would be crazy to not consider Toyota. No sense worrying about it at this point.
