So Nick and others, what do you think about the latest with Tony. What the fuck does Haas-CNC have going on?

Office Depot to Stewart UPDATE and Newman and Jack Daniels: been told that Office Depot will be the sponsor for Tony Stewart in 2009 when he drives for Haas CNC Racing which is will buy in to. Hearing the announcement of the buy and deal will be made in Indianapolis the week NASCAR is in Indy for the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, July 27th.(7-3-2008) UPDATE: Tony Stewart is expected to announce a 2009 move to Haas-CNC Racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in three weeks. Reliable sources tell Sirius Speedway that Stewart will also announce sponsorship from Office Depot and Old Spice as part of a new, multi-year package with Haas CNC, and that Penske Racing’s Ryan Newman will join him as a teammate, with sponsorship from Jack Daniels. That surprise move comes as the result of an enviable situation at Richard Childress Racing, which now has five potential sponsors for next season, and only four teams. Sirius Speedway has learned that UPS will move from Michael Waltrip Racing’s #44 Toyota to the quarterpanels of Clint Bowyer’s #07 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet in 2009, leaving Jack Daniels in search of a new driver. That driver will be Newman, who is set to sign-on with Stewart at Haas CNC.(Sirius NASCAR Radio's Sirius Speedway

I'm treating this like the Toyota situation; I refuse to accept anything until the press conference. (However, Toyota is turning out much better than I think this will)

UPDATE 2: #20-Tony Stewart has been granted a release from the final year of his driving contract with Joe Gibbs Racing after ten seasons with the team, sources close to Stewart confirmed for ESPN.com Tuesday night. Stewart will formally announce his departure from the team Wednesday. On Thursday at Chicagoland Speedway, Stewart will formally announce a move to Haas/CNC Racing as co-owner and driver, sources close to Stewart said. Haas/CNC, which currently fields the #66 and #70 Chevrolets, will be renamed Stewart Haas Racing in 2009. Sources close to both sides told ESPN.com the deal will make Stewart the highest-paid driver in NASCAR. Sources also said the Stewart Haas cars will carry different numbers. The #14, made famous in IndyCar racing by Stewart's hero, A.J. Foyt, is available, but sources would neither confirm nor deny that as his choice. Sources said Stewart will own a 50% stake in the organization, but his financial investment in attaining it was not disclosed. As ESPN.com's David Newton initially reported, Office Depot will have a role in sponsoring Stewart's car. Ryan Newman remains the lead candidate to drive Stewart Haas' second car, sources said, though no deal had yet been finalized Tuesday night. Stewart Haas will continue to receive chassis and engines from Hendrick Motorsports. Haas/CNC's current drivers, Scott Riggs and Johnny Sauter, are ranked 36th and 44th, respectively, in the owner point standings. If the team's performance fails to improve its points position during the second half of 2008, Stewart's champion's provisional will guarantee him a slot in the field for the first five races next season, presuming NASCAR doesn't change the rule.(ESPN.com)(7-9-2008)

4. This one is personal. Dale Jarrett was the first driver that I ever cheered for. However, when Tony Stewart burst onto the IRL scene, there was something about him that I liked. It probably helped that he was good and I was an impressionable 12 year old, but damn, I was hooked. He moved over to NASCAR, and quickly became more than a favorite driver. I quickly got a Tony Stewart shirt, and the obsession began. Tony became the reason that I watched races on Sunday. I'd sit nervously every race, watching for the 20 car on the tracker, and always checking the intervals, hoping that he could make a move on the car in front of him.
At the same time, the number 20, the orange, the Home Depot, Greg Zipadelli, Shaggy, Gooch, Ira Joe.... the list goes on; they all became my passion. It was my identity as a NASCAR fan and as a fan in general. You ask me who/what my favorite team is, and Tony Stewart and the #20 team is the answer. They were my team. And they were damn good at what they did. I remember the Daytona heartbreaks like they were yesterday, and I remember the screams as he won the Brickyard and his championships the same way. It wasn't only Tony, but it was the 20 team as well. I felt a part of that team. A team that was known for it's continuity and something that I felt and hoped and prayed would last forever.
I know that this sounds really really corny and sad, but it's the truth. I became known by my friends for my passion for the 20 car. I was, and still am, attached to anything and everything Joe Gibbs Racing. Sure, I root for other drivers as well (Carl, Clint, Kyle, Denny and now Joey) but it all went back to the 20 team. No one made me sick to my stomach and make me scream in disappointment or joy like Tony and the gang did.
Part of my NASCAR fandom died today. I'm having a hard time coming to grips with this, as it's finally sunk in, but there's still somewhat of a "did this really happen?" factor. A partnership that resulted in a win in almost every ten races and a crazy good race team that seemed unchangeable is now for all intents and purposes, over.
I'm going to treat every race this season like it's the last one I'll get to see, because with the way things are going, who knows when the last time I'll get to see Tony win in the 20 car will be, and when it comes to Homestead, I know that my emotions will be on my sleeve, because that's the end of something that I never thought would stop.
I fully expect Joey Logano to step into the driver's seat of that car, and I have no idea how I'm going to react. I'm sure that I'm going to remain a Tony Stewart fan; I can't imagine not being one. But if Home Depot and Zippy stay with the 20 team and Joey's driving; it's going to be very interesting to see where my heart takes my alliance once the 2009 season starts. There's a very strong possibility that the 20 could still be my favorite car, even though Tony isn't driving.

Eloquent explanation. It's this depth of emotion that staggers the marketing folks' minds when it comes to racing. A lot of them just don't get that the team loyalties in racing are not quite the same as, say, being a Cubs fan. Racing teams can have staying power, but it still boils down to the fact that nothing's permanent.
I don't know what I'd do if my loyalties were split up like that.

It'll be fine. As a longtime Mark Martin fan, I understand what you are going through (except the fucking championships). Talk about mixed emotions.....
Tony will be fine once he gets the right key players in place. And if you root for the 20 with Logano driving, that won't be bad either. You'll just have to be patient and wait for things to develop. Being a fan of a team or driver means that you stick with them in times like this. You'll appreciate it just that much more when things get good again.
In the meantime, Kyle Busch would like for you to start wearing his shit.
