Default Shaq traded to Suns

Shaq was traded for Shawn Marion on Marcus Banks last night.

Steve- what do you think?

The deal isn't finalized yet - Shaq has to pass a physical.

I don't see why the Suns are doing this - yes, they need a big man down low but Shaq is way past his prime.

All indications are that the physical is just a formality. He's already in Phoenix.

I agree with you. They want him to be a defensive presence and to own the boards, but Marion is better at both of those things. I think the Pau Gasol trade has them worried.

Yeah, I think the Gasol trade is what has spurred this on. It's a big mistake - trading a talented young player who is a major contributor for an over the hill big man. Great idea Suns!

CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES COMMON! THERES A PARTY GOING ON RIGHT HERE, CELEBRATION TO LAST AROUND THE YEAR!

Bout F*cking time Riley. I have never questioned this man until this year. All shaq did was free up the double tea, on wade and our 3 point shooters. Shit what three point shooters? Oh thats right, Posey, Kapono, Jones were all too expensive cause we were paying 20 mil a year to a man who plays exponentially less games and minutes by the day.

Dont get me wrong, I loved having the big man, but he needed to go fast before this team wins 15 games all year. If anyone dares to say that Shaq won us a ring I say SHAME! SHAME ON YOU!

The only playoff game shaq did anything was game 5 against the bulls, aside from that, it was the "slugs" are Barkley called them and D wade averaging 35 a game in the Finals.

To me all shaq did was sell tickets and free the D wade double team, but he was never the important "backbone" of our team. That was Zo. When Zo went down how many games did shaq win for us?

Shaq became too old, to fat, to slow and too lazy last season for me and I was fearing his price tag would screw up our personnel decisions for the next two years.

As far as the trade itself, I dont know who banks is, but I would of even giving them someone else with shaq to get Marion. This team NEEDS a thee point threat who can play De and give wade some help on that offense. Plus his contract will be up after this year so we dont even need to resign him.

Bottom line was Shaq was killing our team. Riles knew this and needed a clean break, and we got one. Now with a nice draft pick this year and a but load of cap space we can bring in some quality players next year and watch D-Wade try for ring number 2.

And im spent.

And F*ck the pistons :P

Yeah, tas...
I understand trading Marion (he's a free agent, and has wanted out since at least the beginning of training camp). And I undestand trading for a post player (they desperately needed one). I just don't understand Shaq being that guy.

The one part that cracks me up most about this trade is just what you said jruck. Shaq......defensive pressence.......BWUAHAHAHAHAAH AHAHA. Udonis grabs more boards night in and night out that shaq has for the past 2 and a half seasons.

Shaq only plays when hes on ESPN or TNT. Good Fng riddance big man. I will still always love you and your time spent with us but its time to put ole yeller out of his pain.

They are beeing greedy and want to put Amare at PF, the boy has played center all season and he has been tearing it up. They are pretty much only doing this for the potential Spurs series, where they will have to play slow and would like Amare to play duncan and Have duncan play shaq on De so Amare can go wild. This is the only logical answer I can come up with for this trade.

Steve- I think your emotions over this season have you discounting Shaq's impact on the Heat.

There's no way they get close to the Finals without him. Wade was obviously the MVP, but the Shaq trade is what made them a contender.

This year, is a different story. I agree that he wasn't pulling his weight in Miami... which is why I don't get it from a Phoenix perspective.

Amare always gets schooled by the good post players. He can score on anyone, but Duncan, Boozer, Yao, etc abuse him on the other end. Shaq probably won't do much better, but at least Amare is freed from baring that responsibility on his own now. So, that's a plus for the Suns.

The deal has been finalized.

ESPN - Suns grow larger, acquiring Shaq from Heat for Marion, Banks - NBA

I don't know what attendance is normally like in Phoenix but I'd bet this trade will insure the house is full in the near term anyway. I bet Shaq will try to prove himself for a while at his new "home" but, depending on the chemistry with the other players, that could wear off in short order.

Maybe he just likes the golf courses better in AZ!

Shaq is going to slow down the running game. When will he ever want to play again? Just because of something little hurting, he does not want to play. Even when his "TOE" hurts, he does not want to play. He plays when he wants to. The Suns will find out who he really is and the coach will not take any slowing down by anyone. Shaq said in the paper this morning that he will stay before practices and after practices to get in the Suns shape. I won't believe it until I see it. Look at Kobe Bryant, he plays through everything (even a strained groin) and a real bad sickness. He plays best when he's hurt except for the pinky issue right now. He is not going to tape his fingers for tonights game and says his pinky is better now, so lets see how he does.

I still think the heat got the better end of that deal. When you thinkj of what shaq ads to pheonix, apposed to marrion ads to the heat. shaq is still a force but past his prime and he cannot play in a run n gun offense. Maybe in the 1st quarter or a few playoff games but i know old shaq, and I guarantee he will miss 1/3 of the remaining game of the season with pheonix.

The thing is, we got out clean of that contract which we would of been obligated to pay for 2 more years. Shaq was a big part of this team when he was 3 years younger, and could share the load with big Zo. Recently he has just become the reason we coudlnt afford to resign our role players or pay for new talent.

So long Shaq, you promised a ring and we got it while you were here. I hope the Suns can win this year just so shaq can retire with the thumb ring. But aside from that I am glad to see him go.

Now lets just hope this trade wont stop the heat from drafting beasely.

Marion has his Heat debut on Sunday against the Lakers; however, I think the Lakers are going to still win. The Heat has 2 star players and the Lakers have 4. Gasol, Bryant, Odom, and Fisher.
