Haynesworth given 5-game suspension for stomping on Gurode's head. Gurode does have the option to file criminal charges or civil lawsuit. Do you think the suspension is enough? too much?
In college, the same thing happened. Our d-lineman kicked/scrapped the tailback's face when he was tackled. His helmet wasn't kicked off--it fell off during tackling--but emotions ran high and the nosetackle was getting frustrated because they kept running towards him. His cleat (I believe was 1/4 inch) cut his face open from cheek to forehead. It was disgusting and I was ashmaed to be on the same team as this guy and the same squad.
The mood in the lockeroom was so somber after the game--we won but it didn't feel like it--no one spoke to the player who was suspended the rest of the season.
The parents of the opposing team's tailback threatened to sue the university unless the player turned himself in to authorities. Our coach drove the player to the police station and he recieved 2 years probation and 500 hours of community service. He lost his scholarship--became a laughing stock on campus--eventually dropped out--all records of his exsitance on the team were 'vanished'--and to this day, I had forgotten about that incidinet until I watched the Cowboys game.
It is really sad....this is the crap that kids have to see. This is half the battle for guys like Grasso, White, and any youth coaches.
I felt like it was nothing until Lefty told me it was 1/3 of the season and 1/3 of his pay. Then I felt like it was a little something. I certainly would press charges, and why he wasn't arrested by the police on the field, I'll never understand.
5 games without pay is a big hit to his salary. He's making about $645,000 (~40,300/game). 5 games without pay is over $200,000. Horrible act, but I agree with CAG, you can't press charges. It's like breaking the seal. Once it starts, it won't stop. Now, if Gurode cannot return to football, then I think there's legitimate grounds for a lawsuit, a la Romanowski-the dude he punched in the face, broke bones, and ended his career. Doesn't look like that will happen, but Haynesworth has to get community work or some way of making it up.

I think the suspension should have been stricter. It's one thing for a player to punch another in the face. But when you actually draw blood, and cut a player, it's way more malitious. Plus, the cut was very close to his eye, which could have caused very serious damage.
I know emotions run high, but you need to have some sort of brains. When i played sports, there are times you want to foul a player, but i never wanted to claw their eye our, or take a knife and slice their face.
Probably not pressing charges, but i would have definately suspended him for the season w/o pay. And if it would happen again, in the same instance, a ban from the league.

The new reports are saying that he will lose $ 190,000. And now the Titans are telling him they want part of his signing bonus back, because he is in default on his contract...
On top of that Jeff Fisher is saying that he doesn't care if Hayneworth comes back to the team.
