I went out and spend the $130 for Major League Extra Innings and after watching the Tigers take 2 of 3 from the White Sox, I just know they are for real.
This fall I think I'll be the only person in Greenville, SC talking about the Detroit Tigers instead of the Clemson Tigers, but I'm starting to get very excited about these guys.

As a Twins fan, would the Tigers please stop winning? The Twins have won something like 20 out of the last 25 and have gained only 2 games (if that) in the standings.
Yeah baby! Joel Zumaya is quickly becoming one of my favorite players. I'm going to a game against the Rangers on August 17 when I'm in town for my bro's wedding. I'm more excited about the game than the wedding. I've never been to a Tigers game when they were actuall contenders. From the highlights I've seen, the crowds have been absolutely electric the last month or so. I'm pumped.
My mom called me yesterday at about 12:00 just to tell me that she and my stepdad were on their way to the game (1:05 start). I jealously followed the Gamecast from my PC at work.
By the way, that's a backwards Tigers hat in my avatar. Maybe I should turn it around.
TAV: The Twins are paying the price for a slow start. They're much better than a 3rd place team. But, that said, I still hate them from 1987 so I don't feel bad. :P
jruck: I was at the Cards game where the Tigers won in the 10th inning. My boys were at the game Wednesday night against the Sox when Monroe hit the grand slam. They said the place just errupted. Have fun at the game!

Not only the slow start, but the fact that they can't win on the road.
I just looked something up. Since June 7 the Twins are 30-7, awesome, huh? The Tigers are 28-9. They have gained only two games. What has Leyland done to the Tigers? They may win more games this year than the last two combined!
Tigers are doing very well, but the Red Sox will win it all, too much pitching and defence.
I don't know about that, Kevin. I know the Sox play great defense, but the Tigers have the best pitching in the majors, by far. Their team ERA is 3.54. The Mets are the next closest at 4.03. The Redsox are 11th at 4.40. The Tigers pitching is the reason they dominate.

Yeah, don't go bragging on that Red Sox pitching. Gotta get to Papelbon, and behind Schill and Beckett (who's been a little inconsistent, and Wake's hurt) the rotation isn't great, even though Lester is looking good. Tavarez has been pitiful, and Timlin just got back.
Los Tigres are the other way. They can get to Jones, I don't know if Jones can get it done. I definitely think they should promote Zumaya to the closer's role. I wouldn't trust TJ at all.

You're right, Nick. Todd Jones stinks. When he was hurt at the beginning of the season, they had Rodney closing and he was awesome. I was hoping he'd stay there, but Jones was brought in to close. His save % is actually decent, but his ERA is pretty bad. It's always an adventure with him.

Hell, if I were them, I would go after a reliever, but if the Reds' trade was a indication of the market value of relievers, then they'd have to give up way too much.

I watched the Tigers beat the Sox Wednesday, it was a great game. My grandparents actually went to the Thursday afternoon game. I probably won't get another chance to see them on TV until the playoffs but I'll be rooting for them. Glad to see them develop a good young team. Now it's all up to the Lions to turn the corner.
