On one hand, Ben is a dominant defensive center and gives the Bulls a hell of a front line it Chandler gets his act together. Pretty fearsome with him and Ben and Tyrus up there.
Also, this definitely changes the way that the Pistons play basketball and ruins the Pistons' hopes at a championship. That window is shut.
On the other, Ben is 32, and who is going to pay $60 mil for a center who will be almost 36 when the contract is up. He takes a beating, and his numbers were down last year. Is this really worth it? He's only good on one end of the floor.
More on this later, I want to see what you think after you calm down J.

Hes not worth it. He works with the pistons and he really wont be a threat anywhere else. He averages about 6 points a game if hes lucky. He keeps the pistosn together as a defensive front and they have four players who easily all can get double digits the same night. But im happy as a pig in shit, die detroit die. I got a feelings its D Wade and the cleavand Lebrons in the eastern showdown for years to come.
You're right, Nick. I think the Bulls will regret giving him that money in a couple of years. His blocks/game have gone down 4 years in a row, and his rebounds/game have declined 3 years in a row.
I also felt like they would have been better if Mcdyess played more this year. Sometimes, it seemed like Flip was too scared to mess with the starters and let a bench guy play in crunch time. With Nazr Mohammed starting at center, this should not be an issue.
I think the Pistons are still better than the Bulls (and Cavs). The Cavs will probably be favored in the division, though. think they will probably be rated 4th or 5th in the East when the predictions start in the fall.
Sorry but i cant stand the pistons. Game 7 of last years eastern conference series aside they are the cockiest team in basketball. And Rasheed Wallace makes me sick to my stomach. And I dont care how much "community service" he does. NBA Cares makes every player do it manditory. And Dont get me started on NBA Cares. They spend more money on advertising the progam than the money they use on charity.
You don't like the Pistons because they (I mean Rasheed Wallace) are cocky... Yet, you root for a team that employs Shaq, Mourning, Antoine Walker, and Gary Payton... 4 of the cockiest trash talking guys in the history of the league.
I would expect a Heat fan to dislike the Pistons. I just wouldn't expect the reason to be "cockiness."
Everybody that's ever done anything in the NBA is cocky. The difference is in your perspective as a fan.
Let me replace the term cocky with Smug. Its one thing to talk trash, its another thing to talk trash about a team you justlost to, reguardless about the end result in the series. N its not jsut Sheed, he just rubs me the wrong way worse than the rest. The only guy with any class on that team is Teyshawn(sp?). and ofr the record I hate walker more than i hate the pistons. As does everyone else in miami. And I dont root for a team because of their players, but because its where I was born and raised.
You guys loved Wallace with the Pistons. I have to laugh.
Both Skiles and GM Paxson are former players and people guys. I guarantee you they will come up with a system that will work with Ben in it. The rest of the team is young enough, and the Bulls have no other superstars they need to appease. It's looking very good for the Bulls to rise up to prominence again, just a decade or so after they dominated with MJ.
And I dont root for a team because of their players, but because its where I was born and raised.
Same here. My point is that regardless of whether you call the Pistons players smug or cocky, they are definately no different than the guys that you root for. Again, it all just depends on who your team is. If you were a neutral observer, you would probably only think this way of Rasheed (and maybe Ben). The rest of the guys are quiet and unassuming.
Back on topic...
Kaiser, you're right. I did love watching Ben play. We all did. He's one of my favorite players ever and I have no doubt that he'll make an immediate impact for the Bulls. However, he has some major flaws, and as everyone knows, he's a 1-dimensional player. Ben's play has declined over the last couple of years and I think that his contract will eventually be an albatross around the Bulls neck. As much as it sucks for him to leave, I am glad that Dumars did not match that offer. $60 Million for 4 years would cripple the Pistons in their current financial state. Obviously, the Bulls had more flexibility.
Kaiser is a very lucky man to be able to watch that team this year. The Bulls are going to be fighting for the Eastern Conferance championship this year.
The Pistons worked their ass off to achieve that smugness. Who has been through more crap and worked harder than Chauncey and Rip?
Anyway Ben was a liability on offense. There's no way around it. Teams would force Detroit to give him the ball and he'd blow it every time.
Of course it's painful to see him go to Chicago. I never ever ever ever ever ever EVAR want to see them win again. EVAR.
Mohammed is not much of a starter. Detroit needs a slasher/scorer (Delfino ain't that guy) and they still need another big body to play defense, somebody like Desagana Diop for Dallas.
I agree that Mohammed isn't all that great. I do think that the silver lining is that Flip won't be afraid to tinker with his rotations now. Last year, it seemed like he walked on pins and needles to make sure that the starting 5 played the last 5-6 minutes of every game. That was usually the right move, but nto when McDyess was hot... as he often was in the playoffs.
As far as big bodies go, I think that Dale Davis can provide that as much as someone like Diop. Also, I think wwe'll see some nice development from Jason Maxiell this year. If this forces Flip to develop Delfino, Maxiell, and Amir Johnson, it might be a good thing.
