Thumbs up NHL Free-agency Extravaganza

It begins this weekend and it shaping up to be a very interesting round...lots of big names and quality players are up for grabs..

With Pronger wanting out of Edmonton...it looks like its is going to be a very busy week for the contract writers...feel free speculate on who you'd like to see go where...

I'd like to see the Habs jump in with both feet...Peca may be available and would instantly give them a chance of first round success next year.

Montreal is rumoured to be very interested in Jason Arnott. I don't think that Peca would be a great fit in terms of what Montreal needs.

I still think the Devils should get Satan.

But I suppose that joke has been run into the ground years ago.

WOW ...the leafs spent the farm on a goalie and the d-men...still nothing up front to help an ageing Sundin....With Lindros and Allison wanting to come back...I predict a first round loss at best.

Pronger went to the Ducks

The Oilers get: Joffrey Lupul, Ladislav Smid a 2007 first-round pick, a conditional first-round pick and a 2008 second-round pick.
Bringing in Edmonton native Lupul gives the Oilers yet another young scoring star to join Shawn Horcoff, Jarret Stoll, Ales Hemsky and Rob Schremp in Edmonton. If Lupul and Schremp are both among the top six forwards next year, Raffi Torres could find himself on a checking line. (TSN)

Stevie Y retires.... ...he was (is) one of my favs of all time.

I'm still grumbling about Boston's waste of money! Chara is definitely not worth 7.5mil$ And Marc Savard! Boy oh boy, another season of not making the playoffs seems very possible at this point

We might be getting Shannahan and also Guieren. I wouldn't mind having Billy back.

St. Louis has already signed Guerin and Shanahan is well past his prime.

I think Chara is a big plus, though. Gives them a #1 defenseman who can play a lot of minutes.

Unless the Bruins have some prospects that will pick up some slack they are missing too many peices to be competitive every night....

I'm saddened by the Habs lack of activity...I thought they would dive head long to grab some talent to fill the holes...with edmonton flush with young forwards....Samsinov could be a good fit in a Hab jersey

Samsonov isn't what Montreal is looking for. They were after Arnott--a bigger scoring forward. Guerin is similar, but over the hill. My guess is that they'll be looking to make a trade or two.

I trust Bob Gainey. He knows how to run a team.

I'm not sure who they could go after or who they would move?..there will be some team looking to dump some talent because of cap concerns I do hope they get better up front so they don't rely totally on a goaltender to steal games.

Aebischer could be moved. They're also reasonably deep on defense, so they could move someone like Souray.

Russ...the habs still need to get more mobile on D and at least one strong centre-man to win face offs and set up man and a big power winger who can score....can you get all that with Abischer and Souray?

I don't know if they really need another mobile D. Markov has a lot of offensive talent (that he needs to use more often) and Mark Streit was showing signs of puck carrying ability towards the end of the season. My feeling is that they can be pretty good with the defense that they have. 2 more forwards who can score is really what separated them from Carolina in the opening series.

As a Leaf fan, or possible ex-Leaf fan following the bone head moves, I'm disappointed.

1-they sign McCabe, a guy who can't play defense or skate backwards for huge money. The man had one good year and is one dimensional.

2-they bring in 6 "7" 245lb Gill to take over the excellent work Aki Berg has been doing the last few years.

3-they sign big dummy Antropov to a 1 mil deal (cringe)

4-they haven't signed a single forward to play with the big swede Sundin....arg

I like the Rangers bringing in Shanny....

I like Edmonton getting all those first round picks for a guy who played like crap for most of the regualar season.

I can't understand why Chara got the money he did. I guess someone thinks big and slow are still valuable.

Finally bringing a goalie to Vancouver is probably the best move so far

Yeah I'm not a fan and I can't understand this either...they don't even have a D-man who can pass let alone skate...Raycroft will be busy.

The Leafs seem to think so too.

I should just give up on the Bruins and focus all my attention to the Patriots and Sox.

The HABs are poised for the big move...signing Samsinov and Jonhson....Zednek is gone to the Caps for a draft choice = salary cap room and I can see Abischier and Roberio being packaged for a power forward....hmmm but who and from where?

My inside sources tell me that Montreal is making a serious pitch pitch for Lecavalier (my source is second hand, an individual who is friendly with a number of Habs players). I don't know what they would have to give up. Aebischer and Ribeiro aren't nearly enough.

Then all they would need is Briere and Dumont to recreate the flying frenchmen of old.

Seriously they may have to give up young talent a la Higgins or Calder to swing that.

I doubt they'll want to give up Higgins. They may have to give up a defenseman like Souray and/or high draft picks.
