Question

wtf with my heart monitor? it REALLY seems unrealistic that in every run I hit 240 (the ceiling of my monitor)! I am also wondering how this weird peak number affects my end-of-workout review that says how much of the run I was in the target zone.

any ideas? does this happen to anyone else?

240 is EXTREMELY high. Unless you are running uphill with all you have - and are genetically predispositioned with a high heartrate - your hrm is broken.

If you put it on and just sit there - or walk around the block - what is your heartrate?

I really feel like that it is broken or not calibrated or something.... 240 is way way up there.

My Polar HR monitor also jumps up to impossible numbers once in a while. I've asked people and they told me it happens.. but it's just the monitor.

what I find most frustrating those times, is that because of that peak, we don't know what our realy MaxHR for that workout was.

but then.. some years ago.. we didn't have any HR monitors.. so I can't really complain

but if it happens each time.. humm that does seem as if something is broken.

mine freaks out in the beginning of a workout I've noticed. It normally has to be on for about 10minutes or so (of working out) to really trust the reading. After running a mile\1.5 miles it seems to be much more stable.

I agree that something must be wrong...I really doubt I am that hardcore (or sick!) Do you think it's the chestband or the watch? I bought it through RR Sports, so I should have no problem taking care of it...

look at what I found. Although it's in refernce to Polar, it's good info I will note (especially #2--eew. Mine is really gross)

• Do not bend the TRANSMITTER.
• Keep the transmitter clean by washing it gently with soap and water. Excess sweat and salt build up acts as a conductor and "shorts out" the transmitter causing unstable performance.
• Pool water with excess chlorine content and seawater may be very conductive and the electrodes of the transmitter may get short circuited, causing incorrect readings.
• Do not leave the transmitter soaking in water as this will shorten the battery life.

Transmitter.. I just rinse mine immideately after every workout, before it all dries up.. just streatching the elastic so the water really goes through it.

ok, I am so ashamed to say that I have NEVER cleaned mine. It is a full-blown science experiment; if I ever commit a crime, CSI would know where to look...I'll keep you all updated as to whether cleaning it helps keep the 240 reading down.
