oh look, it's been a while since I've mentioned this here!

what do you do, to get faster mile splits? here's what I have gathered in my research:

1) interval training
2) weight training (lower AND upper body!)
3) plyometrics
4) lose weight, so you aren't carrying so much!

am I missing anything? what do YOU do, to make yourself faster? how do you do it? any suggestions or input would be appreciated...

I would only add on one more, which is my new favorite (from experience): find someone who is faster than you and run races with them. My new runnig friend is faster but less competitive than me, AND she kicks at the end of races--our last mile was our fastest--excellent combo.

I am really convinced that once the muscles are pushed, they learn to remember it.

Interval training and hill work are definitely good. Losing weight will help, if you need to lose weight. If you don't, you may just degrade muscle, which could hurt more than help. Nevertheless, supposedly your mile pace improves approx. 2 sec./mile for every pound lost.

Weight training is a great complement to running... but I'm not sure it really helps you run faster.
