Well, the pics from the Detroit Marathon are up at Runphoto.com. Here's a link to my pics. I think they turned out pretty good. As some of you may already know, I'm the guy with the shaved head and white t-shirt. Before you ask... Yes, I was posing in some of those shots.
Thanks, Dave! I tried to get my cousin to smile for the camera too, but he wasn't having it.
This was my 2nd 1/2 marathon. I actually ran one in the spring, too- the Flying Pig in Cincinatti. There's a pretty detailed thread about that somewhere in this forum, too- if you're interested.
I was feeling really good at the end. My right Achilles was really sore the last few miles, so I tried not to push it too hard. I think that ended up costing me from reaching my goal. The race ended in Ford Field, home of my Detroit Lions... The rush of running out onto the field, with the crowd cheering, gave me plenty of juice to sprint to the finish!
Rod, I still can't view your photos. The link doesn't work for me in either Firefox or Internet Explorer. jruck37's album loads with no problems, so I don't know what the deal is...
Thanks Gobbla and ODB. I don't believe I saw Gov. Huckabee although I'm not sure I would know him by face.
The finish to the Marine Corp Marathon is straight uphill to the Iwo Jima Memorial. The hill feels impossible at that stage, but virtually every finisher said that staring at that memorial made it impossible to walk. Put things in perspective.
My favorite marathon by far in terms of course and serives (water stations, power gels, cookies, oranges etc.)
The scenery was nice to boot.
If you wanted to travel for a marathon ODB this would be a great choice.
You guys better be careful with all this marathon talk or in another 3 years you'll end up with some skinny little hairy bastard at your door looking for a place to crash on event weekend.
Just on a side note...I'm pretty tickled that the running forum is getting some life in it!
I'm thinking of running the St. Jude marathon. I ran the half two years ago and it was a blast. Great weather - great bands - flat course - I had a great time (except memphis was so packed I had to stay in the French Quarter hotel in midtown - yikes! I thought that was a good place - no way..
So - I am doing another race this weekend - if I survive and don't see anything else on the calendar, I am sure my wife would love to go Christmas shopping in Memphis.

Great pics, everyone, and great jobs on the races. I finally saw them all! The Marine Corps Marathon sounds like one to plan for in the future for location and scenery... I also think NYC and Boston would be really good ones.

Don't forget the Little Rock Marathon! They have the largest medal in the country!
Looks like the Little Rock Marathon is just 2-3 weeks after the one here in Birmingham, so I probably won't get a chance to do that one. I noted on their course information that the route is not especially hilly. I suspect strongly that we would have more participation is the marathon here in Birmingham (locals and out-of-towners) if the course did not traverse Red Mountain twice. I think it makes the run more of a challenge and interesting, but so many marathoners try to qualify for Boston or get a personal record, and that's more difficult on a hard course.
