Near the end of this summer I decided to stop just running when I felt like it and really try to get in 3 runs a week 1 short hiit, 1 short normal, 1 long run.
My first long run was about 5 miles. Took me about an hour. I read around a bit and figured out that this would be terribly slow if I hoped to do any sort of tri next spring. I decided I needed to get myself up to 6 mph. I could rarely even do that on a 2 mile run.
Well last thursday was nice and cool, I was off to a great start well under a 9/mile and... my gps cut out. Well I tried to use the mile markers to guestimate my distance at 6 miles. When I finished, my watch said 59:15. However this was a guestimate and I didn't believe it to be true. Plus this was a flat run.
So today I decided to see how well I would do on my 6 mile hilly route around my house. I pushed it hard, and to my surprise I finished 6 miles in 58:58!!!!
I know this is still slow for you runners, but for this FFB it really has me jazzed. I am down from 250lbs to about 200. I train with a 10lbs pack(water bike tools, ect) to simulate my weight when I was bigger as well. When I was 250 I could go about 1.5 miles in 20 min, and that was pushing it.
Anyway, Just wanted to toot my own horn. Next goal, 9/mile over 6 miles. Wonder if I can get that in before it gets really nasty out...
