Took my dog out for a short 1 mile run this morning. She is in great shape but gets bored if we run too often. When she wants to, she will keep a decent pace for about 2.5 miles but will get tired after that. When she gets bored she'll start dragin her heals, and stop to sniff stuff. When she's excited about going for a run she'll do the whole thing only stopping to go to the bathroom.
Random thoughts, but I haven't had time to post in a while and it looks like there hasn't been much action in here. Anyone else go running with thier best friends? Maybe we should have pictures. What do you think?

Hey, nice puppy!

Our only remaining dog is a 16 year-old dachshund who's mostly blind and deaf. Not a good running candidate! However, there is a dog who lives near me that runs with me if she notices me running by her house. She has run as much as 7 miles with me on some occasions. I actually would prefer that she stay home, because she runs out ahead of me and has no sense about staying away from cars, etc. Basically, I spend the entire run worrying that she's going to get hit by a car.

Hey Newride, nice picture. It looks a lot like being up on Pinnacle Mountain here in Little Rock. We just have a bit more vegetation. I have a border collie/lab I used to run with at Pinnacle. He had no problem going up the rugged side and usually ran at least twice the distance I did with him going out ahead and exploring off to the side. I haven’t been running out there as much as I used to so he doesn’t get that fun trip anymore.

one of the dogs in my area used to follow me on runs for a bit too. Wish i had a dog to run with more often. And nice pic, must have been a good run up there.

I ran with my lab 3 to 5 miles at a time until last spring, and then had to retire him due to his 10 years of age, and his hips were starting to bother him, but he loved to run. The funny thing is, while he ran 3 or 4 times a week, his average weight was 98 lbs. And then after he was retired from running, and only goes for walks, his weight has dropped to a buff 85 lbs., and mostly body fat. I wished I could do that.

I have a black lab as well. I don't do much distance running anymore, mostly HIIT, but when he was younger and I ran distance more, he was my partner. He absolutely loved it. Still gets excited when I put my gear on. He sniffs around the playground I do HIIT on. Due to his age and his ACL surgery a couple years ago, I don't take him on longer runs anymore. Just walks and fetch - his version of HIIT. They're the best - no quit in them - they love to run in any weather. Can't tire them out.

Actually that's where I get my username from - (his name is Jac).

I run with my 4 1/2 year old golden lab.

He loves running but I make sure that I only take him out for a maximum of 3 miles. He still likes to stop and sniff etc.... but he is getting more used to running along with me.

He's leaning up nice aswell!

I'd love to run with my dog but he can barely walk up the drive! He's about 13 years old.
