so now that I have figured out (with a lot of help from this forum) that speed is my weakness, I am wondering if I should revamp some of my schedule. Curerently I do "speedwork" (it's pretty pathetic, as I can't ever complete what the schedule says) one day, tempo run one day, and distance run one day, with light cross training between.

what I am wondering is, if my tempo runs are only 6 miles -at most- of a pace I really can't sustain for a half marathon, and I can currently run 13 miles comfortably (part of the problem), would my efforts be better spent working on the Tabata runs and maybe weight training?

I would sitck with running at least 3 times a week. I think we are going to have to actually know your times before anyone can make educated suggestions about the best training protocol. Weight training will be benificial. You say you can easily run 13 miles, but what happens if you speed up 0:30 per mile? Can you still make 13 miles, how far can you make it. What is your best 1 mile pace compared to 5k pcae compared to 13 mile pace? Have you been keeping a log of your training and tracked your progress? That is going to contain the key to what you need to do to improve most efficiently.
