Cool

Well I just finished my third 5k in 4 weeks.
On July 16 (my first 5k in a couple years) I ran a 24:37. On July 30 I ran a 22:36. And today I ran a 21:45! I just might do another after I get back from vacation in a few weeks. They are so fun. Hopefully I can continue to run and train and next May do a 25k here in town. Man, that sounds like a long way!

Great progress in such a short time. You will be under 20 minutes very soon. How much of your improvement was mental(pacing, proper effort, etc.) versus physical? How far and often are you running? Keep up the training and keep us updated.

I usually run 3 times a week. On Monday I do a long run for me- 4 or 5 miles at a medium pace. On wednesdays I go to the local high school to run on the track and do speed work- sprint one lap, jog/walk one, for a total of 5-6 sprints. And on friday I do a 3 miler at a race pace.

I think my times have gotten better so quickly is due to several factors. I used to run alot so it may be the fact that even though I was out of shape I'm not starting from scratch. Another thing was definitely new, good shoes. I also think the sprints help alot, too.

As far as mental, each race I've told myself that I would not accept a slower time than the last race. I run and train alone but during the race I stick with someone who seems to have a little better pace than I do and try to stay with them. It also can be motivating to see some 12 year old kid pass you by.

All I really know is that it has been a whole helluva lot of fun and hope to keep it up. Thanks for the attaboys. BTW I got my first running award this morning for coming in 2nd in my age group.

And think of all the t-shirts you must be collecting!

Great times and I too am jealous. I did my three mile hilly run for the first time in months this morning. I didn't time it but I know it was over 30 minutes. It's a tough run with some verrrry steep hills. Plus, I've run very little this summer. I have to get it back fast since I have a tri next month. I'm sure I could have run it faster but not having run in a while I wasn't sure how I was going to feel. Wednesday will be faster.
