Running form can have a dramatic impact on your capabilities. It is definitely something to work on and try to improve. Over-striding is a very common problem. Where your striking foot hits the ground out in front of your body rather than underneith it. Over-striding forces excesive heel striking, acts as a constant brake, and puts more force on the hips and knees. Excessive toe striking for long distances might be too much for your calves to handle. Imagine that your foot is pawing at the ground and pulling you forward. Make sure that you always have a slight forward lean, and that your shoulders are relaxed.
How far was your run last night, how did your time compare to other runs?
Try going out to a field and running barefoot. If your foot strike is painful without shoes, it is most likely not very efficient. Without the cussion of shoes, you can actually fell how you are running, and it should not hurt. But be concious of your style. Take the shoes off of an excessive heel striker and the will change ther form, but not necessarialy notice it, or realize that they run differently with shoes.
