Well I made it through my first 10k race. I was aiming for 50min and got 50:38 instead. I am pretty happy with that considering that I completely sabotaged myself 2 days before the race.
I had been running about every other day a good hard 3 miles. I pushed myself on these runs pretty hard and felt very good. Knew I could do 6 miles at a slower pace but wanted to run shorter distances just because it's easier to fit a 30 min run in than a 1 hour run. Thursday I get the bright idea of going for a 7 mile slow run. Felt fine all the way through, though my knees bothered me a little at the end. That afternoon when I got home from work, as soon as I took my shoe off I felt a sharp pain on the side of my ankle. Great! What the heck is this? Every time I put my weight on my foot it hurt. I iced it and let it rest as much as possible. Took some asprin and ibuprofen the morning of the race and told the people I was with that I was either stopping at the first medical station or running the whole damn thing. I pushed my way through it, and I think it helped that I shouted slogans like "Explode! Harder! Faster! To infinity and Beyond!" while I was running. I finally crossed the finish line and we all decided to self medicate with alcohol.
It was a good time. I feel pretty stupid for doing my first long run 2 days before the race, but still pretty happy with the results. Sorry for the long post but it's monday morning and this is better than working!

Good job! When is the next race? How did the self medication work for you?

Thanks guys. It was a perfect day fot it. I placed just over the half way mark for my group. Next year I want to be comfortably in the top 1/3. Only have to shave 3 min off so it shouldn't be a prob at all. Thanks!

Don't really know. I am not planning on having running being the focus of my workouts. I want to head back to the gym but I have too many projects going on at home right now. Running is really just something I can do to start off with and tide me over untill I can dedicate some time to working out.
The self medication was dangerously good. I had to take off sooner than I would have liked because I could see where it was heading!

I can see how racing can be addicting. I had a blast, nearly met my goal, but the first thing I thought of was that I could have done better and next year I'm gonna wup this races A$$!
