I have been running for a few years now. I find that when I try to breathe out of my mouth, I get cramps in my side. When I breathe out of my nose I don't get them at all. At the same time I find it much easier to breathe through my mouth. I have read up on cramps but it appears that there isn't really much you can do besides stay hydrated and take in potassium pre-run. I usually get the pain in my side after 2 miles exactly everytime I try to breathe through my mouth. This is a problem on days when I run 8 miles . Does anyone else have this same problem?

I have tried breathing out of both my nose and mouth and that works sometimes but not most of the time.

I've experienced the same thing at times early on when I started running, and it usually went away with some deep breathing and/or slowing down. I found this explanation at the coolrunning website......The Stitch....
