Hi everyone,
I have been lurking around for a little bit. Nice site. About me: 31, male, 6' 175lbs, active, better shape than the average joe but not where I want to be.
I am going to be in a 10k road race next weekend and just have a couple questions. How many days before the race should I stop running? What should I eat the night before and the morning of the race?
I have lots more questions but am looking around as I am sure they have been asked before.
Thanks!

depends how hard you're training, but generally 2 days should be fine.

I have never raced before (well not since High School!). Though it is a popular race that atracts some top athletes, I am in no way competing with them. More of a personal best kinda thing. I am hoping to get around 48-50 min. It's a very flat course and where I run at home is very hilly.
Pretty much I just want to make sure I have the most possible energy for the race without getting sick lol. It is a 8:00AM race. I am usually running at about 5:30. Problem is I think I deffinately need to eat something beforehand because I hate waiting that late for food! I'm the kind of person that wakes up because my stomache demands it.

Newride, what do you eat before your 5:30AM runs?? Unfortunately, people vary in what they can eat/ need to eat before runs and races. You may need to experiment. If you are not sure what you can stomach and still run, I would probably stick with a moderate breakfast that's pretty heavy on the carbs around 2 hours before the race. Cereal, toast, etc. A banana? Some people have trouble, by the way, if they eat foods too high in fiber before a run.

Thanks Bama. I don't eat anything before I run in the mornings. I'll try getting up a bit earlier the next couple runs and having something light beforehand to see what the stomache can handle.

Nice! Right on Sebago Lake. If the weather holds you should have perfect weather for the run.

Good luck with the race and make sure to check back in and let us know how it went.
