I'm trying out for cross country at my school and i live in california. tryouts are during the afternoons, and around this time that'll be around 90 degree weather. Can any1 give me some tips on beating the heat. I can't really drink or stop for water, so any breathing or running techniques???

Just make sure you drink well before the run and try to train some in the heat. How long a run will you be doing?

I usually run 3 miles in that kind of heat without extra water. Just make sure you have some before you start and and the finish. Oh yeah, hope for a cloudy day

dont do a powerbar!!!!! If your eating as your running, liquids and gels only!

Ive puked those powerbars up more than once, its not pretty. Read the labels on what ever it is you pick, it will tell you when to take it.

you normally want to stop eating\drinking about an hour beforehand (up to a half hour for something really small).

Your core body temp is what's going to beat you in the heat. For three miles you're not going to need any extra food or water as your energy stores in your muscles will be plenty for that period of time.

What I do to cheat the system...take a moist towel and toss it in the freezer. Wrap it around your head and shoulders about 10 minutes before you run.

I disagree on the drinking part. I chug water up until the moment I start running, especially on hot days.

Maybe I do have an iron stomach. I can also run within 15-20 minutes of eating (not a major meal, but a moderate breakfast).

BTW - thank you for your service to our country! It is impossible to adequately express our appreciation to all of you who are sacrificing to serve in the armed forces.
