Default Marathon Season Is right around the corner NEED HELP!!

Hey everyone I am currently running around 70 miles a week, I am preparing to run the Hartford Marathon in October. I was just wondering if there are any marathon training plans out there to help me achieve my goal of running a 2:55-3:00 marathon. I was looking at this one

or

the one in Jack Daniels running formula (2nd edition)? Has anyone had any expereince with either of these?? OR would you recommend another program??

Jack Daniels' programs have a very good reputation. I can't imagine you having any problem running a sub-3:00 marathon. You could do one right now.

Hey Barrett,
A girlfriend of mine is on target to run a 3:00 Marathon in October. She is an excellent runner has been running for years. She used to follow the Jack Daniels program until she found Greg McMillan. She says she is now having the best training/speed progressions of her life. It didnt sound like he charged much for a training program, it just takes him a good week or two to get it over to you.
He has lots of great info. on his site.

JD does have a great reputation. Have you considered Pfitzinger? Check out his book 'Advance Marathoning'. It has several different schedules from which to choose. It's also a great read because it gives you the 'how's and why's' and not just a plan.

I've followed a Pfitz plan for all of my marathons with decent success. I'm thinking of shaking it up for my next, but have no problem recommending you look into his stuff.

Hey everyone, Thanks for the information and opinions it has truly helped. I was just wondering I have a pretty good base already created, would it be OK to skip the foundation phases of a program???(BASE PHASE) Yet, on the same note, I have seen my progress decline on training runs such as intervals and tempo runs! What should I do? For example, I used to be able to do an 11 mile tempo run, and now I am struggling to finish a 10 mile tempo run. Once again thanks everyone!

Pfitz 70+ plan - the 12 week one, or McMillan are awesome. OR.... I really like Matt Fitzgerald - look for his book Brain Training for Runners. He's worked with Kevin Beck who builds fantastic programs.

JD is good for general info but he's not the 'latest and greatest' for plan building in the last 5 years.

Also, if you want to stick your head in a fast moving stream, get on the marathon training thread on runner's world.
