What does everyone think about setting up a virtual race for all of those willing in this forum? We could setup groups by age or experience. I suggest a 5K/10k just to keep it so most people can complete the race (including myself). The way it works, is we set a day and time and everyone runs in their area. If you have fellow forum members close, run with them. Once you're done everyone put their time in a post, and we find the winners for each group.
We have some clever guys on the forum that can come up with fun groups, but here was my first stab at it.
Weight Lifters Only (I only run between the squat rack and bench press)
Cardio Class Buffs (I run occasionally but I can step for hours)
Heart Runners (I run only because the Doctor makes me)
Fat-loss (Running to lose weight)
Tri-athletes (I can't think of anything clever)
Trail Runner (why run on asphalt when you can run in the mountains)
Runners (I warm up with a 5 mile sprint)
I've seen this done on the Nike+ website and it seems to work pretty well. If it goes well, next time we could get t-shirts or even raise money for a charity.

I fall into the weight lifter/fat loss category. I would be up for it as I am starting to get back into shape for a number of 5K efforts this summer. I am sure I can still post up a totally nonrespectable 38 minute run.
One suggestion from when we used to do distance challenges: Instead of doing individuals you could set up teams evenly split on goal times provided by each challenger. You might get a few more participants that way. Also there is pretty low viewership in this forum so we might have to reacdh out and throw out this challenge in the Training Forum to get better participation. IMHO

I figured we'd get a few people from this forum interested, then we could expand. Teams sound like a good idea. Maybe handicap the teams in some way as well based on experience, to make it more competitive.
