How cold does it have to get before you start running inside? This is my first cold season where I plan on running, so I've bought a few cold weather items to help. But I'm pretty sure once it starts getting below 30 degree Fahrenheit that I'll have to move to running on a treadmill.

During HS/college in northern Indiana there were some outdoor runs in the mid to low teens. But then ice on the roadways becomes an issue, unfortunately.

When I used to run, I ran outside always. The only time I wouldn't is if it was icy. I dressed for the cold and could run outside in 10 degrees. 30 degrees is nice!
Ditto what everyone else says. I am sure there is a low cut off, but it is more dealing with footing than anything.
I was just out in -4c the other day (which is just below 32f). In truth I was a little cold, but this is more due to how hard I am pushing myself (not hard at all) right now.
I would have been fine with a thin pair of gloves and a hat. My covered body did infact break a light sweat.
I have seen the dress for 20 degrees warmer than it really is, thing before.

I ran on Wednesday night and it was 12 F and snowing. I'll run below zero outside. I hate treadmills.

I actually don't hate treadmills, as weird as that is......
Still running outside is handy since I don't own one and good ones cost $$.
I'd rather buy something (ie rowing machine) that I can't just go out and do.

mid 20's is about my limit but more because I have asthma issues in the cold air more than in heat so I try to limit running outside when it's below freezing. I've found a good hat, proper socks and gloves go a LONG way to comfortable cold weather running.

It really just amounts to personal preference. The coldest temps. I have run in were in the teens. But, of course, it rarely falls below the teens here. Both times I ran the Rocket City Marathon in Huntsville (2005 and 2006), the starting temps. were in the upper teens. I can't say that was enjoyable, but it's far preferable to hot weather.
I hate treadmills too, but I hate frigid temps even more. My husband raced over Thanksgiving and it was low 20s with a NASTY windchill and I'm just not interested in subjecting myself to that. I'm a girl... and I'm a wuss. When it starts getting up over 45 I'll think about it again. Until then, I'm in the gym.
I didn't think running in cold weather was a big deal until this past weekend. It rarely hits 0 C in Vancouver, B.C. so when it did and I ran...it was freaking cold!!! Now that they're calling for around -10C with windchill, I will move it into the gym. However, what are you're favourite layering techniques? FYI, I'm a girl.
AND FOR THE BOYS: How do you keep your boys warm? My husband had it rough when we went running.
As long as he's not wearing shorts that allow a breeze, I can't see a reason his boys won't stay warm. I've never had a problem with that. And I'm oddly curious to find out how your husband is having this problem.

I'm assuming that you mean wearing shorts over running tights? Because I can imagine running in sub-zero degree (Celsius) temperature in just shorts. He wore just running tights and it was probably around -5 C. If not a little colder.
I've had that issue. I guess I run so fast that there is a wind chill on my front.....;-)
Usually, a pair of compression shorts under my tights, and that typically does the trick.

People here run all winter. Straight temps below 0 (F) and wind chills on top of that. I'm not an avid runner, but I ran through a couple of winters; I think I did a twenty below or so day a couple of times (with wind chills on top of that).
Tights worn under lined wind pants. Layers up top. Hat. Facemask. Gloves under mittens. Two pairs of sock. Get the idea?
Some people run on ice and snow. I call them crazy dedicated runners. Seriously! I think it's ok the run outside as long as your are well dressed and not getting any frost bites.
If you are not dressed properly don't even think about it!

Footing is the biggest concern. Slippery surfaces make for a lot more risk of injury.

Going inside because it's below 32F? LMAO
Hey, don't hate on the princesses! No bragging rights needed here on how cold it was when I ran.
I actually got some gear for colder weather, but as soon as I did it's heated up. I should be good for the teens, but I'm not going far enough so that I'll need to wear a face mask. Luckily in Alabama it's not in the teens for long.

The day it gets to -20° here I certainly WILL be running... straight to Florida and never looking back!
I don't even know if they sell facemasks here. LOL! I've used sock caps and gloves and do have Under Armour tights, which I think I've needed maybe 6 or 7 times over several Winters.

A lot of it is acclimation. When I lived in St. Louis, I'd run when it was 100F. Now I think I'd pick jumping rope in an air conditioned room over running in that.
Ditto on the acclimation. During college I was running all winter in 20F or colder and it wasn't bad after the first 5 minutes or so. Not so much anymore.

I ran on Friday morning when it was 10° at my house and probably 8° in the highest elevations on my route (300 feet higher than my house). That was the coldest weather I have ever run in. Once I got acclimated, I was fine... except for my face, which wasn't protected. When I got home, I had a ring of frozen sweat around my sock cap, and the snot under my nose was frozen!
