Default Training Regimens

So I figure I should probably be able to run a few miles without passing out, so I started running (very loose definition) once a week. I've been running a 2.6 mile loop once a week during lunch from work. 2.6 miles was decided because it works out well logistically. I'm assuming that similar to weight training there is a way to train other than running that 2.6 miles over and over again. Does anyone have any suggestions on a training program for me? Once or twice a week is about the most I'll be able to put into running, I also weight train a couple of times a week.

Do you have a goal? Or are you just running because it's awesome?

Try running the route faster. (duh )Or the other direction to hit hills differently. Run it faster. (Did I already say that? ) Run it twice. Break it into intervals. Run it as a fartlek.

There are tons of ways to change things up. I'll never understand why some people say running is boring.

I'll think of more. I'm headed out the door to a race.

No real goal, but I'd like to be able to run a few miles with relative ease.

I'm definitely not at the point where it's fun. If I didn't have my mp3 player it would be even tougher to stay focused. I'll try to run some intervals and see if that helps. And I'll google fartlek to see what that is.
