Default Pain in the ankle

I'm training for a tri, and on Sunday I did a brick where I biked 18 miles, put away my bike and within one minute was out running. (10 minute mile pace... maybe I should call it jogging!) For the first mile my ankles hurt. Maybe not my ankle per se... it was in front, right where the bend is where my leg becomes my foot. (Does that make any sense?) It hurt for about a mile then went away. I was thinking of a few possibilities and thought I'd ask y'all here for input:

1. Just a factor of getting off the bike and transitioning to a run.
2. My shoes aren't the proper ones for me. (I neither pronate nor supinate and have very neutral shoes.)

Any other thoughts?

If it went away, and there are no residual pains today, then I would assume it's just something working itself out from having your feet in one position on the bike and then changing that on the run. Did you ice it at all? If you have more pain, I'd start doing a bit more research....

I'm no one to say for sure, but I get the same pains sometimes when I run. I run 3 miles 4 times a week. At least once a week I get those pains around my 2 mile mark. I'm thinking it might be the shoes. I haven't been fitted for running shoes. I just picked out what I like. So, maybe, we are in the same boat. Maybe I'm wrong, but, I feel your pain. Seriously.

It was just that once. In my race yesterday I actually had the opposite - it hurt in the back for the first mile. I think it's just a function of getting off the bike, so I'm not too worried about it right now.
