Default The Gouchers

If you get a chance to pick up the new Runner's World, there is a really cool article about Adam and Kara Goucher in there this month. It's a pretty cool look at professional running, and makes me a little envious that I'm sitting at a desk.....

Don't read RW anymore, but Running Times recently had a profile of Kara Goucher.

Running Times is owned by Rodale now. Hope it doesn't turn it into a watered-down piece of shit full of weight loss tips. There's already one of those running mags...

Although I just bought an issue of RT and they have an offer for a year of RT and a year of RW, both for $25. I might go for that.

I still read RW and did catch that article. I have seen a difference in RT since the change, but it's still head and shoulders above RW. I've become a regular reader of Marathon and Beyond. An excellent publication that puts Rw and RT to shame, IMO.

However, I've developed a slight crush on Shalane Flanagan, so the new RT cover is alright with me.

I have been following the couple since they started training with nike. Adam is my hero and Kara is my crush. She is no Jessica Biel. I have been subscribing to RW for a long time, the only thing I don't like is there nutritional advice. They are telling runners to eat like 1800 calories!!!!! Isn't that a little low.

Shalane Flanagan and Kara Goucher are both pretty hot, I'll give y'all that one. Deena Kastor isn't bad for a woman of her age.

Trail Runner is a great magazine too, but obviously focused on that section of the sport. RW does have some good historical articles and breakouts of big marathons.

I read RW for motivation, they do a fantastic job of profiling different athletes as well as providing really good, inspiring stories.

RT is great for the running advice.

Deena is just 5 years older than Kara, don't forget. Way to make us "thirtysomethings" feel like we're doing ok for women "of our age"....

My mistake then on Deena's age.. I thought she was in her 40s.

I appreciate women in their 30s!

When I was in the gym I caught ESPN2's coverage of the NYRR Women's Mile, which Kara won by a good 200m in 4:33. I now love her, even if she does seem a bit new-agey in her belief that titanium necklaces might help recovery (ref here).

OK, I am very happy I purchased the May 2008 Runners' World. Even though I think Kara doesn't have a chance of winning Boston, she sure does look purty.

The latest issue of RT is absolutely stunning and so full of training goodies its like a book.

So, so far, so good after the Rodale takeover. I currently subscribe to both (just added RW), because I just like magazines and I don't think its bad to throw a pittance annually at a representation of the industry that provides so much of my joy in life.

That reminds me, I should renew USATF...
