Did my first 5k on saturday. I'm pretty happy with how it went. It was a bit long, 3.2miles. I did it in 25:53. Much better than I thought. I only got beat by 2 ladies over the age of 60. I've been running 3 miles to train and I've been around 26 1/2 or so, just for 3 miles. I thought my time would be around 27. Just thought I'd share.

Good Job!! 5k's are hard because they're so short you go all out the whole time.

That is good work, if you plan on doing more 5Ks in the future I would recommend looking up some training routines for them. There are much better routines then just going out and running 3 miles for practice. But seriously good job!
That is great for just starting out. I started out a few years back and I am still shooting for sub 30 but then again I am slow and old. Good Luck with you future efforts.

Nice job wannabe. I nice to see more people on this forum getting into long distance running.

UPDATE: I've been training for a solid month now. I started to regularly train since mid august. I've gotten my 3 mile time down to 22:31.
Dunno if anyone's going to read this thread, but as of late I've developed a pain in my heals. It surrounds my heals and goes half way down both sides of my foot. I get them the worst if I sit for anymore than 30 minutes or so and get up to walk. Once I start walking, it goes away within a minute or two. When I start my runs, it will hurt within the first 30 seconds and will usually dissipate within the next 6 minutes. Whats wrong with me?

CHECK YOUR SHOES. Not just your running shoes but your work shoes as well. I got the samething twice in the past couple of years and both times I found a pair of shoes that I had used past their prime. The first time it was work shoe and the second time was an old pair of running shoes that I was just using for lifting. When I changed out the shoes the pain quickly went away as well.

Not sure what to tell you about the pain that hasen't already been said, but congrats on the progress that you have been making. That's a pretty good improvement for the last 5 months, and just in time for fall running season. You should be able to hit a sub-22 road race this fall.
