Default Foot Strain

Hi there..i usually don't post alot but i do read up on here quite a bit. I'm not as a seasoned runner as some of you are but i do enjoy running and usually average 20-30k's a week right now (in winter) more in the warmer weather.
What has been troubleing me is i seem to have an annoying foot strain that won't go away. I've seen a chiropodist and he fitted me for orthodics (which i can't wear running they give me friction blisters) i wear them pretty much most of the time.
Anyone else had any issues like these? I'm thinking of seeing a different foot guy-i haven't heard much good about the other one. I've had this foot strain since about July. It also dosen't bother me all the time just once and awhile.
thanks Jen

If I were you, I would stop running until the foot strain heals. Find some other activity like biking (or even "conditioning" routines with weights ) to keep up your endurance fitness.

I'm convinced that podiatrists prescribe orthotics for everyone who wander into their offices. I saw one last Spring and was prescribed orthotics. I used them for a couple of weeks and stopped using them. I decided to work on my running gait (especially footstrike) instead, and the original problem has not returned. There are some threads in here about "barefoot" running (not really barefoot, but using very flat running shoes) that have a lot of information about training running technique.

thanks for the info....it comes and goes...it won't bother me for a while then one day it will. I teach indoor cycling so i get lots of other cross training as well. I've read the threads about the "barefoot" running...quite interesting.
i actually caused the foot strain myself by always being on my tippytoes trying to reach for things on top shelves (i'm pretty short) and being lazy and not getting a stool....lol

did the podiatrist mention whether it might be plantat fasciaitis (sp)? my wife was diagnosed with it and she had foot pain for a really long time. they started by giving her orthodics. then they made here sleep in this boot that stretched her foot. unfortunately for me she gets the jimmy legs and kicks in her sleep. hehe. but anyway, she also got cortisone shots in her foot. and those would help a bit. but the ending of the plantar story is evidence that my wife is the toughest lady i know. she fixed the problem accidentally one day on her own. she was running and she felt a pop and flash of pain in her foot. she finished her run and came home and iced it. it didn't hurrt anymore. so she goes to the doctor and he says, he was going to reccomend surgery to cut the fascia but as it turns out the pop and flash of pain was the fascia ripping in two during her run. so she didnt need the surgery anyymore. it hasn't reaaly bothered her since.

that's what i thought it was but plantar ficiatis is in your heel area and the pain is usually during the morning when you get up. Mine is in my arch and was hurting at night or if i was standing all day long. Not so much running itself bothered it-just other things.
I think i'm gonna see another foot guy and get a second opinion-i really don't want to have to wear orthodics forever...
