Default XC

I just got a call from my coach from my school!!! I am going to try an walk on to the XC team. I have 2 questions.

1. They have double session practices, the first one is at 6:30 in the morning!!! What should I eat before that will help me on my run and NOT repeat on me(if you know what I mean)

2. This is my first time doing XC is there anything that I should know what I am getting myself into??? I have run road races and did track in high school, and know I am a junior in college. Plus would it still be ok to lift using the NROL program???

Barrett, diet is pretty individualized depending on how sensitive you are to particular foods. I would definitely try to get some combo of protein and carbs down before a run. Whey is good for protein if your stomach is sensitive. I like bananas before a run or oatmeal as well.

Have you ever checked out the forums at LetsRun.com? There are a lot of XC runners who post there. They may be able to give you some XC advice. The bad news is that their forum is very busy and can be pretty brutal at times - sarcastic responses, etc. Nevertheless, there are a lot of runners who post there who are up in your league. I'm not trying to steer you away from here by any means - it's just a different resource than this forum, so I wanted to mention it in case you haven't stumbled onto it yet.

at 6:30 the grass has a lot of dew (at least where I live) so I always wear longer socks than I would normally wear (above the ankle socks). The biggest difference between track/road races, is the surface. Practice will vary depending on what your coach wants you to do. I would say that as long as you are eating enough doing NROL would be fine. Remember this though, Joggers find dead bodies, runners don't :p
