Default Boston Marathon Weather, yikes!

My heart goes out to the Boston Marathon runners today. I'm about an hour north of Boston and it is cold, raining really hard (2" so far and 2 more expected today) and is very windy (sustained winds of 35mph with much higher gusts). This is probably the worst storm we've had in years. To top it off the wind is coming right off the water so it'll be a head wind for the runners the entire distance!

It'll take some amazing toughness to run today!

My friend Laura was supposed to be running today be opted out. She ran a marathon in Toledo yesterday instead. When I talked to her after she finished, she said it was cold and windy there. She was so glad she decided not to chance going to Boston. That's hypothermia weather.

It really sucks after all of the anticipation so many runners have built up for running Boston. Sounds like the winds will be the worst factor. It seems like weather is the biggest issue every year with the Boston Marathon. Hopefully the crowds will still be out there, because that really is the thing that makes the event.

It will take some stones to finish today. Anyone who does finish instantly gets mutant status in my book.

My supervisor at work ran at Boston this year. I think his pace was 7:57 per mile. Pretty crazy considering the weather. Not too shabby at 45 years old.

Actually, he must have run his qualifying marathon faster than 7:57/mile to have been able to run at Boston. I think the Q-time for age 45 is a 3:25. Maybe it's 3:30. It's 3:20 for ages 40-44.

He qualified in Columbus, OH. I think he said something about running that one in 3:25 or so.
