4/28 - 7.35 miles
April Total: 113.96 miles (120% of goal)
How did I wind up with some anal total like 113.96? Like I could have it measured that precisely. I must have put a lot of faith in my Garmin on one of this month's runs. LOL.

Surprisingly well. As noted in yesterday's post to the Injuries forum, I'm beginning to wonder at the (lack of) severity of the injury. My walking stride has almost returned to normal. That little trot (no pun intended) I "logged" (okay, pardon this pun) above was just a little test across two parking spaces on the way out of the gym. Obviously, I wasn't going to run my scheduled 5K race today (stride mechanics blow right now), but I wasn't going immediately to my knees in pain again, either. I went through a battery of ROM and flexibility self-tests, and the only real pain came from direct stretching and contracting of the affected area (provided my body is sufficiently warm--I was at the gym for an upper body routine and decided to play around a little afterward), so running and leg curling are issues, but squatting and even some lunging aren't a problem other than some tightness. If I'm awake, the leg is either iced or compressed, and I'll continue that until my doctor's appointment Monday afternoon. With any luck, I may only be out of normal activity through the end of May, but then, what do I know? Worst case I'm thinking is end of July, but I really think I'll be back up and running before then. Julie pointed out that the combination of my recent injuries suggest poorly developed glutes (can't disagree--I have no ass), so I'm sure that'll become a focal point in rehab as well.

That's good that it seems to be healing pretty quickly! I would just sub in activities that don't aggravate it. You'll bounce back in no time once you re-start. I know I prolonged my recovery from ITB Syndrome by re-aggravating things. Glute activation seems to be the big thing these days. I foresee a lot of single leg torture exercises in your future!!!!

Glad to hear things are coming along better than you expected. Like Dave said just don't do anything to aggravate it. Hopefully you will be back running races by June.

Thanks folks. I won't say I'm optimistic--I'd never say that--but it's looking better.

Thanks guys - and thanks for all the encouragement over the course. Much harder to blow off a scheduled workout when you have to post it.
And awesome comeback for you Dave - well over your goal. I'm still curious as to how the Free's are doing their trick (although I'm glad for it - the minimalist approach is always my favourite. Pity you didn't stumble on them before I suggested seeing a pod!). I'll be curious to see the Free's from the back after a few hundred miles and compare them to the others you posted. Can't help myself - always trying to learn (hope you don't mind being a 'teacher' ).

April 29 - 5 miles
April Total: 49.85 miles (110.78% complete)
Goal: 45 miles
Looks like a lot of good news here since my last post... I don't have time to catch up now, but I guess some congrats are in order for Kevin (kicking tails and taking names this month with your goals!).

April 29 - Another 3 miles
I ended up doing an additional 3 miles today with my 9-year-old son. My weekend runs with him have really helped my total!

Kevin, I don't think you suggested that I see a podiatrist, did you? I'd have to go back and check. I recall making a spur-of-the-moment, same day appointment and basically just running with his "you're structurally a mutant" 30 second diagnosis (spent more time with me discussing marathons and trying to sell me foot antiperspirant.. and taking unnecessary x-rays). Anyway, I have nothing but great appreciation for all of the help you gave me.
I have no idea why the Frees seem to be working out so well, or whether they are actually doing anything at all. So far, I continue to feel better post-run with these shoes than I did with the orthotics. Go figure. I don't understand any of it, really. Why I was able to run for years in essentially anything with no issues, etc. I have a feeling it is something I will be managing for a long time, if not forever. I'm curious to see what the backs of these shoes ultimately look like as well. There's essentially no reenforcement on the shoe upper at the heel. They're almost like wearing a very thick sock! So, I don't know how well it will show up.

Yeah, actually this was the real reason I would have been thinking you needed professional help . I can't remember what I said, but I certainly thought you needed an assessment to know whether your hindfoot was correctable. Who cares, I'm just stoked you're back running - otherwise you may not have posted the funniest thing I've read this year (ie your Running Summit post).
UpNorth - awesome work on annihilating the monthly goals.

Eric It looks like my run on the 17th was missed on the spread sheet. It should be 6.13 if we even need it after some of the outstanding performances this month.
