YIKES! Did you guys sign up for the "special seeded start positions" at Indy? I completely forgot about it. Actually, I remembered... but didn't re-check the details since I've been injured and figured I wouldn't need to worry about it, and just read that they allow this for anyone with proof of a 2:30 or faster Half! If you don't have special seeding, then you get corralled according to your estimated finish time behind those who got into the special corrals. So, I guess this is going to be a very congested start at this race. I guess it doesn't matter too much, since I have no chance of PR'ing and it is chip timed, but I have to think I'll lose a few minutes even after crossing the mat at the start due to the crowding.

I did. I never heard anything back after I mailed in my results from my last half as proof. I told them that my goal time was 1:30. Fat chance! I'm still having a hard time picturing so many people running this thing. I'll probably still be seeded half-way back.

Okay, now I see why I thought I should blow it off. They have seeding ahead of the "preferred seeding" based on qualification times. That's what I was remembering and figured I shouldn't get into one of those corrals when I likely wouldn't be able to run at the pace of the other runners due to my injury. I didn't remember that they would give preferred corralling to anyone with 2:30 or better.

I think I registered with a 1:30 goal time as well. I don't even remember. LOL. Since you sent in your proof, you should get a good start position!
Are you going to taper for it?? Why are you saying "fat chance" on the 1:30??

The way it works is as such: yes, if you submitted proof for a seeded start, you will be put in a front corral (A being the elites, B being the fast amateurs -that's where I was last year, and so on). However, you can choose to run in a slower corral than you have been assigned to. This is what I will be doing. My packet arrived at my parents' house, and I'm sure I won't be running another 1:23.
And Jim, it's a pretty slow race all in all - I'm sure you'll be further forward than halfway :-P. The start isn't all that congested toward the front, but I've seen video of the later corrals and yes, it's congested. But it thins out by the first mile.
And for a good restroom spot, I recommend the bushes in front of the Eiteljorg Museum, near the front of the corrals to the right (as you face down the direction of the race.)

Yeah, I'm going to taper. At least I'll take it easy the previous week. I say fat chance because 1. I'm being hard on myself, and 2. I assumed even with the seeded start it would be so congested that I would lose time there.

Did you apply for one of the front corrals or the 2:30 preferred corrals?? I imagine the front corrals won't be bad at all. When they seed people according to projected time, things really do go smoothly... even if crowded. I was surprised by how well Boston flowed with the crowds due to their corralling system. It makes a HUGE difference.

They like us better because we're out-of-town tourists arriving to pump thousands and thousands of dollars apiece into the Indy economy.

I applied for one of the front corrals. I think. They needed proof for whatever one I applied for.
It must be the beginning of the alphabet thing that we've received our packets.

Oh. My. God.
That has got to be the funniest thing I've ever read. I am sitting at school in the computer lab laughing so hard I'm in tears. People are looking at me like I'm nuts.
Edit: I just re-read it ten minutes later. That's so freaking funny!

On May 7th. For $169.99. But only if you order by May 9th. Because that's when the price goes up to $229.99, and you also won't get the free complimentary photos of Jim face down in a pool of vomit on the pavement during his Sunday run. So act NOW, before it's too late!

Hmm. Jim, go to Broad Ripple. Lots of bars and Butler University. I'll pass on the pack, that probably would require extra payment for the flight. And I wish I lived in Arlington... it'd make the 80 mile round trip commute much easier!
I'm not sure how much time I'll be able to spend with you guys though. My family probably expects me to see them or something.
