5k, hernia, hey
The title says it all. Just nice to be able to set up and read the forum again after surgery. I didn't even get a chance to report that the weekend before I did my personal best on a 5k here in North Little Rock. Was a great flat run. My numbers don't come close to many of you great runners in here...but I'm proud all the same. 26:25
I shaved 4 minutes off my last 5k so I'm happy with that. Better yet, I feel that I can do even better on my next one. Learning to pace myself and learning just how much to push. I love running.
Hope I'm healed enough for a 5k on the 6th of October.
Anyway..good to be back. Hey all.

Congrats, that's a huge PR... over 1 minute per mile!!! But you shouldn't have run so hard to give yourself a hernia! :p

Yep. Talk about an effort! It wasn't pretty, I had to pick my guts up and stuff em back in before going home. (kidding of course)
I wont be able to run or lift for several weeks. sux. But at least I got this problem fixed.
Thanks guys. Now if I can just keep knocking a minute off each mile every month..i can hit the record books within a few months. If it weren't for this hernia thing..well..that's just what I'd do.
I just hope I don't digress too much in the next few weeks of doing NOTHING. Recovery time is hard for me mentally. I HATE not being able to do anything. I guess I'll do some inspiring reading or something.

Doc said that after a week I could try walking for distance. If no discomfort..a jog after week 2. But I'm having doubts about recovering that fast. I feel like warmed over crap. Went home early yesterday from work and curled up in a ball.
Anyway, thanks. I appreciate the encouragements. Fact is, I'm pretty depressed right now and I guess I was fishing for some. I haven't lifted in weeks and now I can't run plus in pain plus no energy plus just quit a long time (15 year) post at my church as music director. (there's long ugly story attached to that one) Anyway..nice to have someplace to vent a little where a person can get a few encouraging words.
This forum is sometimes a life saver.

That went by fast (for me :p)!
It's hot here, too, but the very early mornings are almost perfect.

Thanks
It, in all honesty, went by faster than I thought too. I really didn't expect to be healed enough to run for like another few weeks.
Yep Bama, I need to get my arse out of bed and do the morning thing again. I was doing that b4 the operation. Now I just can't seem to get my lump out that early.
I think they slipped me something during surgery that turned me into a lazy bastard.

Jimbo it is great to hear that the recovery went well and your out and running. As far as slipping you something to make you lazy, not too many folks out there running 5ks 4 weeks after surgery.

Thanks! I know you guys love running so you can appreciate what a relief it is.
I'm signed up for a 5k this weekend. Goal is 26 minutes or less. (I wish I could say 24 or less...but a pipe dream for me at this point)
Anyways, I'm ALIIIVE!

Yeah...it's been HOT and MUGGY here during training runs this week. Ran 5k last night and bout died. BOUT DIED I SAY! But finished in 26 which was pretty darn good for my training run...lots of lonnnng hills.
So if I get under 26 this saturday (which is supposed to be nice and cool!!!) I'll be so happy.
Thanks!
