My son Jared and I ran his first 5k yesterday. We ran it in 33:35, not bad for an eight year old. Now he wants to run marathons with his sister and me. I told him he needs to wait a few years before he could run a marathon. He is proudly wearing his new T-shirt to school today.
Congrats on the run and completing it with your son.

Hey, that's really cool! I also noticed that somebody over at RWOL said their 8 year old just ran their first 5k as well. I wonder if I could get my 8 year old daughter to do one. She has expressed interest in doing a one mile fun run.
That's great! My younger daughter is interested in running. She's only 7, but I'm hoping one day she'll run some races with me. Our whole family is going to do a one mile fun run later this month.
I have not been able to get the 10 year old to get into running (although she is quite the softball player). My older kids both did triathlons when the were younger but didn't stick with it, they were also in competitive swimming for a while. The boy (16) is into tennis now and my oldest (she's 19) plays volleyball. So at least they all have some sport going on.

Congrats for your son and you! I am 17 going on 18 years old and still have never ran a 5K, but last year at the age of 16 ran a 4:48 mile... I think this year I will join cross country and run some 5K's in order to get in shape for this upcoming track season!
