Default Running "prpblem"

I started jogging a few weeks ago just to get some cardio in. After a week off due to a cold and an injury I started jogging this morning and it wasn't happening. I can walk at 5mph, but if I crank up to 7mph or so my pace is way off and my stride is crap. I feel like I have a ton of mud on my shoes...it's like my legs have no idea WTF they're supposed to do.

Any ideas on this? It's been nice and I'd like to run outside but not like this.

(Yes, I do stretch)

A few questions: What time of day do you run? Do you eat before you run? Have you tried warming up with a walk and then breaking into a real run?

5:30am. I eat, usually some carbs (like a PB&J sandwich and some water). I usually walk for 5 minutes before I kick up the pace. The pace is more like HIIT, walk 2 min at 5mph, jog 2 min at 8mph, etc.

give it a week or two. it sounds like you didn't have enough time under your belt to take a week off (including being sick) and just "bounce right back". it'll be fine.

CASTUFARI.. running is not only a question of speed.. if you go from walking 5mph to running 7mph , you are changing 2 things at the same time.. most people can run slowly at the same speed as they walk fast.

alternating as you're doing is the usual way, BUT IF IT DOESN'T WORK.. just an idea : maybe try running slower.. just to get used to the running part the time you want to be able to run... and when that feels ok..THEN work on going faster. (actually it will come naturally to speed up..)

adapt the idea to your level..
