Stage 16 is going to be very interesting, to say the least.
One thing I read today from Bruyneel was that the reason Contador didn't attack earlier is that they didn't want to drag Rasmussen along. It was too big a gamble that they could break him early, and if they didn't they'd just end up pacing him up the mountain.
Some of this is straight up.

From a few minutes ago on Velonews' live Tour coverage:
2:27 PM Another...
bad doping result?!?!?! Today's l'Equipe is reporting that an as-of-yet-unnamed rider has tested positive for testosterone, following last Thursday's stage to Montpellier. We have no information on who that might be, so we will not speculate.
According to Velonews, these are the riders tested that day:
Robert Hunter (stage winner)
Michael Rasmussen (yellow jersey)
Maxim Iglinskiy
Erik Zabel
Lilian Jegou
Cristian Morini
Kim Kirchen
Patxi Vila.

Man, I hope it's not Rasmussen. If it is, the TdF is going to just blow up. I'd love to see Contador win, but not like that...

They initially said they were going to announce it at 10 eastern, almost two hours ago, so that makes me wonder if they're holding off because it IS Rasmussen.

Glad I called in sick, also glad I remembered to hit the mute button when I left my boss a voice mail.

That was a gear I didn't think Rasmussen had. Contador looked toasted, and Rasmussen just buried him. Damn.

Thats one dumb ass comment by Bruyneel. Every time you attack him you risk him covering the attack and holding on. But whats wrong with the two of them putting time on everyone. And if you don't try to attack him....then you won't win the tour.
Hopefully today is the day.....for some very large fireworks. And if they don't get it done today, then they were stupid for not trying earlier on Monday when Contador had the legs.

Oh, well. I guess if they go ahead and finish it Contador will be on top of the podium. Maybe they'll just fold up the tent and pull the plug on this whole fucking circus.

Rasmussen pulled out of Tour
Yellow jersey Michael Rasmussen will reportedly not be at the start of the Tour de France's 17th stage Thursday morning according to L'Equipe. He was withdrawn from the race by his Rabobank team for reasons which were not specified. Rasmussen won Wednesday's Stage 16 finishing at Col d’Aubisque.
The news comes just hours after the news that Cofidis' Cristian Moreni tested positive for testosterone, leading to that team's withdrawal from the race.
It is not clear yet if it is related to the comments made by Davide Cassani, the commentator for Italian TV channel RAI, to Danish news source DR. Cassani claimed that he had seen Rasmussen in the Dolomites on June 13 or 14. The Dane has claimed he spent June 4 through 26 in Mexico for training.
Stay tuned to Cyclingnews for more information as the story develops.

Edit: Velonews picked it up too.

News Flash: Rasmussen pulled out of Tour
Filed: July 25, 2007
Yellow jersey wearer Michael Rasmussen was sensationally kicked out of the Tour de France by his own Rabobank team, the Dutch outfit revealed on Wednesday.
The Dane had seemingly weathered the storm over missing four out of competition dope tests in the past 18 months and had won Wednesday's stage to all but seal overall victroy.
However the team has learnt that Rasmussen lied to them over where and what he was up to during the month of June when he was in fact in Italy and not in Mexico as he had told them.
Rasmussen had won two stages during the Tour, though, his presence at the race was questioned by several officials and from the race organisers as well.
His departure leaves young Spaniard Alberto Contador in the lead with Australian Cadel Evans in second.

This is just a fucking disaster. What is with these guys???? It's just snowballing. I'll keep watching, but I have a feeling this is going to leave a black cloud hanging over the Tour for years and years to come. 2 teams out, the yellow jersey out, and 2 other riders out because of doping. What a mess.
It's getting to the point where cycling is testing so hard that they are ruining their own sport. I know all the blame should go to the riders, and they need to start whipping the dopers' asses, but they are killing the sport of professional cycling right now. The sport gets 3 weeks of major coverage a year, and it should really focus on positive coverage, if there is any left.
With that, I will tell Rasmussen to fuck off, go back to doping in Italy instead of Mexico, and say Alberto Contador is the freaking man.

I was thinking that but didn't want to be too negative.

Are you kidding me????!? I am SOOO pissed right now. I had no idea Rasmussen was suspected of doping because he missed some scheduled tests. Dammmitttt!!!! I was just really beginning to like him, his style, his demeanor in interviews. Oddly enough, I'm not as mad at him as I am the whole f-ing UCI and WADA. What a mess. The sport I love will never be looked at the same.
I guess if there is any kind of upside (a small consolation at this point), it's that Leipheimer could podium.
