July 9: 13.5 miles
25 mph head wind all the way home today. On one gentle downhill where I usually do about 25 I looked down to see 14mph, and I was working hard! The next mile and a half were uphill, and if I didn't have a granny ring I might have been walking.
So is the wind a valuable training tool? Or a most despised adversary? I'm mixed.

It's the later for me. If I always had a head wind.....I wouldn't road bike. I do enjoy the pain of riding bikes period....but I also ride because it's fun.

Where the hell do you climb in Dallas? (or is Big D supposed to mean Denver?)

Dallas is insulted by your claim that we have no climbs. Nothing like Colo or Ark for that matter....but we have hills, if you know where to look.
Don't tell me that Chicago has none. Seriously, you got some routes with some elevation change....don't you?
And if you had an account on beginnertrialthlete.com*, you could look at my route.
*not that I am contemplating Tri's. i just started using the site because it is greatness.

Chicago is flat as a pancake. Why do you think I log so many miles? There are some hills and rollers, but we are talking about 150-200 feet of elevation change at most. So short and steep, or slight incline and long. Most of my elevation change occurs going on an overpass over expressways. Nothing major at all.

You have to get more than 150 to 200 feet of elevation change on a given ride? Have you ever mapped a route on goggle maps to see what they say your elevation change is?
Heck, I'll search motion based and others for routes in Chicago to see what you got.

Chicago is flat.
In 22 miles, this guy found 900+ ft. elevation.
Motionbased
Here is a Motionbased map of the ride I did yesterday.
And just for perspective. Here is the Ouachita Challenge Motionbased map from a buddy who did it this year.
