Default Looking for a Bike on CL

Hey guys:

I was wondering if anyone has any advice about buying a bike from CL. I am looking to replace my old bike, but currently don't have a budget for a brand new bike...

I'm looking into this bike:

http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/bik/359858471.html

My insteam is about 31" and I'm 5'8". Think this is a good size for me?

Thanks.

Pretty hard to tell based on that, but 52cm is pretty tiny. I'd suggest finding a bike shop that sells a few brands like Specialized and Trek and find the size that works best for you. Fit is highly subjective and individualized, until you know what size frame you need it would just be a crap shoot.

" It is a great younger persons or ladies bike"

I think it's going to be a bit small, but that is a fantastic bike for the money. That's a great place to start looking.

52 in too small for you. I'd look for about 54cm or a 56 with a short stem (depending on your torso length. Are you more leg or more torso?) Also, I'd be on the lookout for a medium giant.

I send people to CL all the time.

What she said. 54 or 56 or M in the Giant brand... shorter stem or not also dependent on your arm length.

Find a biking friend who knows about fit, they will do you a great job, and may be willing to look at bikes with you.

Alright folks, I'm looking to upgrade from my (really cheap) road bike and would appreciate more knowledgeable eyes. I've been looking on craigslist and found these options:

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/d...405986407.html

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/n...404719734.html

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/d...404061378.html

And this one from performancebike.com:

Thanks for any help you can give. I'm 5'11" and will primarily be using the bike for commuting (after I move to San Diego in a few months) and for general fun riding.
