So I have my new wheel. It is labeled 26.0 x 1.5
The Trek site says the 3700 uses 26.0 x 2.0 tires.
I said I thought they looked narrow, but the guy at the shop said they would work. I had specified my type of bike when I ordered the wheel. I didn't want to spend $100 on a wheel.
Anyone have experience with this? are my 2.0" tires going to fit on my 1.5" rim?

So got the tire on the rim no problem last night, the old rims are pretty close to exactly the same width as the new one. No issue there.
I went for a test ride. I can see a visible "shimmy" in the front wheel when I ride it. It does not rub on the brake pads at all, I have basic cantilever brakes.
I am not sure it will ever be an issue since it is such a small movement. My guess is when I got tapped that one of my forks got bent a tiny tiny bit.
So does anyone have experience with anything like this? Do you think this shimmy will ultimately be a big deal?
Opinions?

Could just be a couple spots where you didn't get the bead fully seated on the rim on one side or the other, that's happened to me anyway. Let it down to about 20 psi and work your way around the tire, squeezing to get the bead seated evenly. Just a thought.

Sounds good to me. Might be something that simple. That would rock.
Thanks for the advice.

You may be right about the tire beed. I have not been able to correct it as of yet, but I do not detect any shimmy from the rim itself when I look at it. Either way it was ok going down the neighborhood hill, which is probably a couple of km long I'd guess.
Yes it is good to have the bike back. I will try and get it back to snuff on Sunday and take it out for a decent ride. I need to shorten the chain a little more still. Hoping one more link will do it. I measured it incorrectly when I put it on so there are times when it has to much slack.

I'm thinking he's right.
You have to look at the rims movement compared with your stationary brake pads. That will give you a better idea if the rims is untrue.
If you do find ANY fork damage....I would stop riding immediately and take it to a bike shop to have them look at it. Fork failire is often extremely dangerous. And probably one of the main reasons they put those stickers on the bike that say "could cause serious injury or death".
When I have my bike in the stand, the tires ALWAYS have a little wobble to them, even though the rim is true.
Glad your back on the bike.

yeah my Rims look ok. I can't see any damage to the fork, and the rims look pretty true, which I would think I would have issues with if the forks were bent.
I can believe fork failure being dangerous as hell.
I took the bike out yesterday with what turned out to be a 44km ride through the city. Seemed alright to me. I am thinking it got through it better than I did!

More or less.. rim width doesnt change what width of tire you can have.
Ive had 3 inch wide tired on mavic 721s (skinny) before, and also a 1.25 inch tire on a 321 (Fat).
think im a little late here, but oh well

Yeah in the end they were pretty much the same size as what I had, but I am still pretty much a novice when it comes to buying and working on the bike
Thanks for the help even if it was late
