Hey Kaiser...
...have you ever had your neighbor arrive home and as they walk toward their back door the look over and gaze at you through your french doors? As clear as day it appears to them that you are humping your wood floor? Surely they take a moment to verify what they are seeing. "oh my gosh, he's screwing.......nothing". They don't see the foam roller or realize the benefits of getting the blood circulating in your over worked quads.
ahh yes. Your words have encouraged me to pull out the foam. Especially since I'm putting in so many more miles.
Unfortunately, I have been black listed in my neighborhood.

I have the same problem except that I forget to get the foam roller out!
I heeded Kaiser's advice as well and bought a foam roller. Fantastic stuff!

Bedroom. 2nd floor. Below the window line. Drawn shades.
Is it helping your recovery? I love mine.
I foam roller daily, on big ride days, twice. I think I have hit my overtraining threshhold though.... legs are trashed from Friday's ride and even though today is my usual rest day, I can tell tomorrow's heat and humidity 48 miler is going to suck big-time. Actually, it won't suck big-time, I will. Big time suck of wheels, that is.

I haven't been doing it religously yet. I have only done a couple of days worth. I expect it to help me. It has in the past when I was consistently lifting.

Maybe dial back the intensity on one or two of your weekly rides? But here is my question to you. Are you taking anything, electrolite tabs perhaps, to help with cramping? I am drinking plenty of water, but I had some cramping last night after my max intensity threshold training ride.

Actually, it wasn't a dehydration cramp (sorry that I wasn't clear) - for some reason, the arch of my right foot was really sore after Friday evening's ride. Don't know what it was - orthotics not quite in place in the shoe (my guess) or me just clenching my right foot a lot. It is still sore today, but did not affect me at all after today's ride.
I am very, very good about hydration and ride nutrition and my bottles always have something with sodium in at least one of them (Accelerade usually). Plus, I don't sweat a lot, except from my head into my eyes (which is why I always wear a head rag under the helmet).

I wasn't suggesting you were having any cramping problems. I was curious if you do anything in particular to ensure that you don't.
I had gatoraid w/protien powder and water in one of my bottles yesterday, but I didn't drink a lot of it during the ride. Maybe I will look for something with a little more sodium.
Doesn't sound like you are taking electorlite tabs?

Sorry, I didn't read your reply carefully and misunderstood.
Nope, no tabs. Don't sweat that much and, really, haven't ridden that long. I drink a lot, more than most of my teammates (and always one bottle with something in it for rides longer than 90 mins), but I don't sweat as much. I think I've had a muscle cramp once or twice in my life (usually the result of some prolonged intense work, not dehydration) so I guess I am one of those people who doesn't suffer from them.
My habit is to drink a sip every 10 minutes or so, whether I need to or not. I think I read it once and have implemented it that last 4 seasons or so, mostly to prevent bonking, which happened to me 5 seasons ago (not a good feeling).
Silly and bmph8ter take e-tabs - I know because riding with them on the Womble is the only time I ever tried one (when you don't have refills of sports drinks, and you dirnk only water out of a stream + iodine, it's either gel or that). They might know more about it.

Cool. I actually just started to drink smaller amounts of water more often. I think it is helping. I used to take giant gulps....spread out over long periods. I found that I was having to gasp for air...because I had so much water in my mouth. And sometimes I would even spit some out, or let it drain out.
Maybe they will have some success stories on the e-tabs.
Question. Do you take any creatine? If so, how do you think it impacts your riding/endurance work?

PFFT!! What do you know about humidity? It was about 87% here today. That is until it started raining. We were on the Womble though so it worked out. Since our shuttle bailed on us, be ended up riding just short of 50 miles total. Just got home a bit ago. Fun stuff...

In the heat / humidity here we have to use e-caps. Let's see...yesterday I ate 3 before the ride, and three each hour thereafter PLUS Gu, PLUS CliffBloks. I sweat ALOT, and really need the sodium. I can literally wring sweat out of my clothing and hair within the first hour. When it heats up more, I'll up my ecap intake. They're crucial for our summer riding / riding survival. I'd recommend buying a "sample" pack and trying them out.
Aaron actually uses the Hammer Nutrition Heat Endurance formula to help him sweat, and therefore not overheat.

What is this "humidity" that you speak of?
7% here today. We have to sleep with humidifiers, and our pool and aquarium take constant replenishment due to evaporation. But when I'm riding the evaporating sweat keeps me nice and cool.

Good info. I actually have a bottle of e-caps. I was only using them when I knew I was going to be on an epic. Say Ouchitah challenge. But I will start incorporating them into my longer rides as well.
Thanks.

No creatine. Is it supposed to help your endurance? I thought it helped your explosiveness, but knew nothing about endurance.
PS: Glad to see Silly was able to give you some good info.

Got our signals crossed again. I'm not suggesting it helps endurance. I was wanting to know it's impact on cycling/endurance (since the go hand in hand) if you were taking it.
nothing more.
