Default chain.

gah.

So recently I was out for a ride and the chain started to skip. I assumed it was just due to it being wet. I let it go and didn't get back out for awhile.

I went back out the other day and the same problem occured, mostly under pressure, going up hills and the like.

So I took it out on the road and dealt with it, even though it sucked. I made it there and back, I had started to assume something was messed up with the derailleurs as it didn't seem to happen every revolution.

So with a transit strike looming I got around to actually looking at my chain today.

I started to work on cleaning it and almost immediately noticed one of my links was half busted, with the link bent out slightly.

Glad the chain didn't give out on me while I was on the highway.

Just a reminder to check your stuff and make sure it's in good shape, especially if it's doing funny stuff, don't just assume it's something simple and ignore it.

On the positive side I got a new tool. yay new toys.

Og.

Its a good practive to measure the chain every so often to see if it is stretching. Replacing a chain is a lot cheaper than having to replace a chain and cassette becuase it wore too much.

Well put 30+km on the new chain today. Seems to work pretty decent.

I screwed up putting it on though and it's a tad loose so at times it jumps the front cog when I am shifting to the easy gears.

Damn oh well. All in good time.
