Tyler Hamilton Faces New Doping Charges

USA Cycling reports that they have received information from the UCI regarding Tyler Hamilton and his alleged involvement in "Operation Puerto" along with a request to move forward with disciplinary action. USA Cycling has referred the case to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency for adjudication.

"We received a communication from the UCI today containing the "Operation Puerto" dossier for Mr. Tyler Hamilton and a request to open disciplinary proceedings against him," said Steve Johnson, chief executive officer of USA Cycling. "As required by our anti-doping regulations, we have forwarded the complete dossier to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency and have asked them to adjudicate this case on our behalf."


In a journal entry on tylerhamilton.com dated June 26, 2006, Tyler Hamilton wrote about the newspaper article allegations of his involvement in Operation Puerto:

I was very upset to read the accusations against me and to see my name associated with the "Operacion Puerto" investigation in Spain. I have not been treated by Dr. Fuentes. I have not done what the article alleges. In addition, I have never been contacted by authorities in Spain regarding these allegations. Therefore, it is impossible to comment on a situation I have no knowledge of.

Let me start by telling you this: I have never used steroids, period.

I have never intentionally used steroids. Never. Ever. Period. Ultimately, although I never intentionally put a banned substance into my body, the independent arbitrator ruled that I had to be suspended under the terms of the program.
