Cheaper Bike Site?
Hi guys - I remember that someone here posted a site that sold cheaper road bikes. My girlfriend took my road bike for a spin the other day, and is totally hooked. I want to encourage this, and her mom has offered to buy her a bike! I remember someone posting a company that was great for beginner road bikes, and they were in the $500-1000 range (if not cheaper). It was an off brand name, but they were built pretty well.
Now I could have just imagined this, and if so, come kick me in the ass. But I swear I saw it here. If not, any suggestions? Grassy ass!

You can probably get a decent road bike from your LBS for a grand--and it will fit, so she'll ride it without pain.

You can get a Felt or Giant in the $700 - $800 range.

Yeah, we'll have to go to Denver, the bike shops up here jack the prices up a bit. We fitted her for a Giant and a few Treks yesterday, and the prices were kind of ridiculous. The Giant OCR1 was almost $1300. That's a tad high for that bike in my book. It's a good bike, but not $1300.

You should've seen some of the prices I saw yesterday while I was in NYC. Now I don't know much about bikes, but there was one specifically that was something like 4,500. :P

Wow Eric. I got my Giant OCR 1 for right at $1000.00. But that was at the end of last summer. $1300 seems a little high. Just like Joe said, the Felt are some good bikes for a pretty good price. I just could not find one in my size last year at my LBS. So I went with the Giant.

Thanks Scott, that's what I thought! We're going to head to Denver soon and see if we can pick her up a bike. I'm just so excited that she's so excited to get on the bike - I want to find her something now! Oh well, she'll probably end up with a better bike than me!!!

Eric, it ain't your LBS, but you might want to try this site:
http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/road_bikes.htm
My understanding is that they have bought a few old/discontinued names, (i.e. Mercier & Motobecane) and slap them on Asian frames. But they seem to have the full component groups.
I almost bought my last bike through them, but ended up at the LBS because I wasn't sure about freight, duty and taxes into Canada.
