Default decline bench press good for women?

I've always heard that flat and decline bench presses were the best chest exercise for women because developing the lower chest would support and lift their bust. Is their any value in this or is it simply a gym rat myth?

I don't even know any gym rats that believe that shit. Or at least they know enough to not admit it.

Go look at an anatomy book and locate the lower pec major.

Well the decline / flat bench targets more of the sternal head of the pectoralis major (from my understanding) in comparison to an incline press putting more tension on the sternal head of the pectoralis major.

I feel a good contraction with decline presses, but I don't feel they are a replacement for flat bench, it's mainly a tool and I'll just throw it in every 3 weeks or so.

How about teaching them scapular work and getting them to do back exercises instead? This helps them pull the shoulder blades back and improves their posture. The bust gets pushed out naturally as the back gets stronger to support it. Not that I've given lots of thought to this or anything.

Now if someone had just told Simona Halep about that...

Nice one Dave, and agree that improving someone's posture is going to have a bigger effect than any chest movement.

Yes, I can personally attest to this. Definitely noticed marked perkiness with improved posture.
